An Egyptian revival ring. Magnificent antique 19th century ring, created in Europe in the Egyptian revival style, back in the 1860's. The outstanding ring has been crafted with classic patterns in solid yellow gold of 14 karats with high polished finish. The main decorative element is the elegant portrait in profile of an Egyptian queen facing to the left and wearing diamond's jewelry such, dangle earrings and a tiara. The queen's portrait is decorated with the difficult polychrome enamel technique, called Peinture sur émail. The craftmanship is exceptionally well done and surely is a one-of-a-kind conversation piece. Egyptian Revival Jewelry For centuries, Ancient Egypt has held the fascination of the public and continues to inspire artists and designers alike. Between the 1860 and 1890, ancient cities were discovered, such as Troy, Pompeii and Alexandria. Archaeological excavations in Egypt, Greece and Rome, discovered artistic pieces of these ancient cultures. These fabulous discoveries, stimulated cultural trips to these countries, popularly called "grand tour". Being the case that the enthusiast visitors bring back small objects, like souvenirs to be assembled into jewelry. The starting point of these trips were in the cities of Rome and Venice. Diamonds: Mount in inlaid settings, with 11 European rose cuts diamonds, 0.22 carats, G/H color, SI clarity. Weight: 5.95 Grams, (3.85 Dwt). Size: 5.5 and may be sized on request. Important carved intaglio ring by Giovanni or Luigi Pichler (1773-1854). An extremely rare intaglio seal piece, created in Rome Italy by the Pichler's Atelier in the late early 18th century, circa 1795. It was carved in an oval cabochon cut shape, from a triple layered translucent bluish agate. The intaglio seal depicts the naked figure of the Roman goddess Mercury, in running flying position to the right with a helmet and winged sandals. Raising his left hand and holding a trophy with the right hand. A butterfly or flying insect at the right. Signed, Pichler in Greek (ΠΙΧΛΕΡ), for Giovanni or Luigi Pichler (1773-1854). This seal has been made after the famous Flying Mercury (Mercure volant) statue, created by the mannerist sculptor Giambologna (Giovanni da Bologna 1524-1608), a Flemish-Italian sculptor that work all his life mostly in Florence in Italy.
