Provenance: Italy Ring size: 6 1/2 Weight: 10.7 gr L’anello del I secolo presenta una montatura realizzata in argento, in cui è incastonata una cornice d’oro che contorna un peculiare intaglio in ametista raffigurante lo strumento musicale romano conosciuto come Sistrum. Questo strumento, solitamente realizzato in metallo, ha origini antichissime: si presume che provenga dall’Antico Egitto, dove era sacro alla dea Iside poiché ne fu presumibilmente l’inventrice. Successivamente trovò larga diffusione in Medio Oriente e in Grecia, tanto che viene citato in cerimonie descritte nel Vecchio Testamento. La peculiarità dell’intaglio risiede, altresì, nel fatto che lo strumento è accompagnato da due farfalle, simbolo dell’anima e della sua transizione tra il mondo terreno e spirituale, e si tratta di un significato che si lega alla funzione di guida delle anime dell’aldilà attribuita a Iside, il cui culto trovò diffusione nell’Antica Roma dopo che l’Egitto venne ridotto a provincia romana e imperatori come Caligola favorirono la nascita di templi dedicati alla dea egiziana.
