About the Item

The two clasped hands on this Victorian heavy yellow gold fede ring signifies friendship or love. The fede ring is an Italian term and signifies 2 hands clasped in faith, or "hand in hand". The clasped hands motif originated with the Romans in early AD with the 2 hands clasped together as a pledge to marry. During the renaissance it became fashionable to give fede rings as betrothal rings. Men often wore fede rings as a symbol of friendship or to signify a contract. Rings of this period were crafted entirely by hand. A wonderful Valentine's day gift or special anniversary for the person who appreciates the craftsmanship of the Victorian era.
