Antique 18K fede friendship ring circa 1880
About the Item
The two clasped hands on this Victorian heavy yellow gold fede ring signifies friendship or love. The fede ring is an Italian term and signifies 2 hands clasped in faith, or "hand in hand". The clasped hands motif originated with the Romans in early AD with the 2 hands clasped together as a pledge to marry. During the renaissance it became fashionable to give fede rings as betrothal rings. Men often wore fede rings as a symbol of friendship or to signify a contract.
Rings of this period were crafted entirely by hand.
A wonderful Valentine's day gift or special anniversary for the person who appreciates the craftsmanship of the Victorian era.
