Ararat Rugs Derbend Kazak Rug, 19th C. Caucasian Revival Carpet Natural Dyed
By Ararat Rugs
Located in Tokyo, JP
This is a Derbend Kazak rug also known as Daghestan rug, designed late 19th century, is a type of handwoven rug that originates from the Caucasus region, specifically from the town of Derbend (also spelled as Derbent) in modern-day Dagestan, Russia. Derbend rugs have a rich history that dates back centuries and are highly regarded for their intricate designs and craftsmanship. Derbend rugs are known for their bold and vibrant geometric designs. They often feature intricate patterns and motifs such as diamonds, medallions, stars, and stylized floral elements. The designs are typically woven with high contrast, using a variety of colors, including red, blue, green, and ivory. Derbend rugs have been woven by various ethnic groups in the Caucasus region, including the Azerbaijani, Lezgian, and Avar peoples. They hold cultural and historical importance as a form of artistic expression and are considered a part of the region's rich weaving heritage. The design of this rug is interpreted by our designers and soft colors are chosen for this rug. Color summary: 7 colors in total; Turquoise 330 (Spurge - Madder Root - Indigo - Walnut Husk) Dark Brown 316 (No Dye - Sheep’s Own Color) Barley Corn 103 (Only Specially Washed) Mandarian Orange 529 (Madder Root - Walnut Hulsk) Wax Flower...

17th Century Korean Grapevine and Squirrel Scroll Painting, Mid Joseon Period
Located in Kyoto, JP
Anonymous. Korean, 17th century. Joseon period. Hanging scroll. Ink on paper. Seal: Shinso Dimensions: Scroll: H. 200 cm x W. 31 cm (79” x 12”) Image: H. 122 cm x W. 29.5 cm (48” x 11.5”) The grapevine came to China and then Korea from western Asia via the silk road trade routes. By the mid-Joseon period, it was one of the most popular subjects for Korean literati painters. Grapevines were painted as a singular subject or, less commonly, in combination with squirrels, which are associated with children due to their playful nature. Together, grapevines and squirrels embody wishes for abundant offspring and wealth. For the Korean literati artist the twisting vines, curling tendrils and round, plump grapes provided ample opportunity for expressive "brush play”. In this painting the artist has abstracted the scene and is seemingly unconcerned with discontinuities and proportion. Vines spring up from nowhere, grapes hang in random clusters and the squirrel’s head appears as if twisted backwards. For the vines and leaves we can feel a sense of speed in the brushstrokes, imparting a dynamic feel which is at once intense and animated. This contrasts dramatically with the countless tiny strokes of ink which realistically capture the texture of the squirrel’s fur...

In stock Gufram Jolly Roger Pirate Chair by Fabio Novembre, White
By Fabio Novembre, Gufram Furniture
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
Italian genius designer Fabio Novembre was born in Lecce in 1966, graduated from Milan University of Architecture and studied film in New York. In 1994 he opened his own design studio in Milan, and has since launched extensive design collaborations. Fabio excels at telling stories with avant-garde, bold furniture designs, especially a collection of furniture inspired by the human body. Designed by Fabio Novembre and born in 2013, the Jolly Roger armchair is Gufram's first product to be moulded and the first to be free of polyurethane soft parts. Jolly Roger is a seat reminiscent of a skull, with a world map embossed on the back of the seat used by pirates of the Pacific. Consistent with the attitude of all Gufram products, Jolly Roger, far from boring interior design standards, is an armchair that represents a free stance. From the name "Pirate Chair...
