Pair of French Art Deco Bookends Signed Max Le Verrier Green Bronze on Marble
Located in Salzburg, AT
Extremely decorative and very finely designed cubic Art Deco bookends by Max Le Verrier. Clear and strict depiction of bison in green bronze on a black and cream colored marble base. Louis Octave Maxime Le Verrier, short Max Le Verrier (born January 29, 1891 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, † June 6, 1973 in Paris, France) was a French sculptor. He also used the stage name Arthur. He returned to Paris at the age of 16 and took odd jobs to avoid working in agriculture. In 1909 he left France and moved to London for a short time, where he found it difficult to find work. Le Verrier worked at a flight school in Rendon, where he first serviced planes and then obtained his pilot's license in 1913. During the First World War he was used in a French bomber squadron from February 1915. On May 25, 1915, he was shot down by a German fighter plane...
