Coral Column
Located in Palm Desert, CA
Alongside my wife Nansi, I have been lucky to explore some of the most beautiful and pristine coral reefs in the world. People often think we take pictures of the corals and paint them, but that is far from our process, which involves (at least in this case) working from an abstract design and weaving in memories and imagination until I had this image resolved. This painting is scheduled to be a part of our (Nansi’s and mine) international museum exhibition highlighting the beauty and fragility of our coral reef ecosystems, kicking off at the new ICONIC Museum in Texas in 2024. David C. Gallup has devoted his life to the study, teaching, and creation of art. He graduated from Otis/Parsons in Los Angeles in 1990, and soon found himself supervising a staff of over thirty artists under pop art legend Hiro Yamagata on the Earthly Paradise collection and other projects. He began plein-air painting on mornings, weekends and after work, and eventually left his friend and patron Yamagata to pursue a career as a gallery artist. For over a decade, he was the Vice President of the historic California Art Club...

Art Deco Horses and Nude Figures

Located in Miami, FL
This work is an exceptional example of Kádár's mature Cubist style. It's effortlessly designed around a complex composition of nude men and women tending to horses in a surreal landscape with Greek columns, friezes and marshmello clouds set against a rich blue saturated sky. Kádár was a Hungarian painter influenced by Der Blaue Reiter...

Pardner, 1943 Vintage African American Art, Black Artist, Painting, Pet Portrait
Located in Grand Rapids, MI
John Farrar (American, 1928-1972) Signed: John Farrar (Lower, Left) “ Pardner ”, 1943 Titled Above Signature (Lower, Left) Oil on Canvas 26 ⅛” x 32 ⅛” Housed in a 2 ½” period ornamented Newcomb-Macklin frame in toned gold leaf, in good original condition. Outside Size: 30 1/2" x 36 5/8" A recent discovery of a painting that appears to be Farrar’s family dog. This was done when he was just fifteen years old. As a teenager in the 1940s, Farrar received much local acclaim in the Washington D.C. art Scene. Words like “Child Prodigy”, “Brilliant” and “Gifted” were used to describe him in the local newspaper. He had a great bout of early success which included developing patrons among Washington DC’s art elite but this was short lived as he was afflicted with schizophrenia and alcoholism as an adult causing him to spend much of his life in mental institutions. In 1942, Farrar won the Washington Times-Herald's outdoor art fair. This painting was executed the following year when he was 15 (1943). That same year he won the top prize at Atlanta University’s third annual “ Exhibition of Paintings, Sculpture and Prints by Negro Artists ” with a piece titled “ Queenie ”. Approximately one hundred and fifty works of art were included in the show, representing the best works of more than seventy-five contemporary African American artists. This show included works by Romare Bearden, who was awarded Honorable Mention for his painting “ The Two Genrerations ”. Also included among the exhibitors - Charles H. Alston, Allen Rohen Crite, Aaron Douglas, Fredrick Flemister, Sargant Johnson, Horace Pippin, Jacob Lawrence, Marjorie Wheeler Brown, Hughie Lee Smith, Lois Mailou Jones...

Pair of paintings - Two Children Playing
Located in Boston, MA
Pair of paintings each in original American Federal Period white pine gilded scoop frames with inner row of beads. Framed Dimensions: 24 x 29 1/2 inches. Provenance available upon request. Michele Felice Cornè, considered to be Salem, Massachusetts’ most versatile early nineteenth century artist, painted this remarkable pair of paintings about a decade after he arrived in America from Naples, Italy. Cornè worked and lived in Salem from 1800-06 when he moved to Boston. During his Boston tenure (1807-22) the artist was noted for painting portraits of Boston ships and naval battles of the War of 1812, as well as taking on major mural commissions. This charming pair of paintings, each of two children playing, were possibly intended as overdoor decorations for a Federal period house. Cornè’s most ambitious decorations were the wall murals which he painted for the Sullivan Dorr house in Providence in 1810. And this pair of paintings seems to date from about the same period. From 1822 to his death in 1845 he lived in Newport, Rhode Island. The pair of paintings of Children playing was long in the famous Americana collection of Benjamin Flayderman. Flayderman was said to have set the standard for collecting in American furniture and decorative arts in the 1920s. Much of his collection was sold at a legendary sale at the American Art Association-Anderson Galleries (predecessor of Parke-Burnet and Sotheby’s, New York) in April of 1931. These paintings, however, were retained by Flayderman and descended in his family. Cornè was instrumental in transferring current Neapolitan painting techniques as well as Italian landscape themes to America. On the subject of Cornè's non-marine work, Nina Fletcher Little, the Cornè expert, stated: “Although Cornè's claim to twentieth century recognition has rested chiefly on his marine subjects, it is becoming increasingly apparent that he was equally successful in the charming landscapes he placed upon overmantles, fireboards, and framed canvases. Many depict the rolling countryside of his native Italy, which he copied from romantic engravings. These compositions, featuring grazing cows and frolicking peasants, are extremely colorful and picturesque. Arched bridges, steepled churches, crenellated castles, and round stone towers form most decorative backgrounds.” The two paintings: Two Children at Play with a White Bird and Two Children Playing recall earlier European and Italian models. Cherub paintings were popular throughout western Europe in the last quarter of the 18th century. But these Cornè paintings also recall the Renaissance paintings of putti such as the little angels by Raphael, painted as part of his Sistine Madonna, and lately enjoying greatly renewed popularity and notice. Cornè often used Italian old master models as a basis for landscape or figure paintings. Cornè was born on the island of Elba in 1752. During the Napoleonic Wars, he sought refuge and sailed to America on the ship Mount Vernon commanded by Elias Hasket Derby, Jr., at whose father's house Cornè resided in Salem. The artist arrived in Salem, Massachusetts in July of 1800. Derby, impressed by the Neapolitan marine paintings that he had seen and collected during his Mediterranean voyages of the late eighteenth century, sought to make the same skills available in Salem by encouraging Cornè to live and work in that town. Cornè was quite successful in transferring the current Neapolitan decorative painting to America, and his popularity grew rapidly. Cornè attracted the patronage of many in Salem, and was introduced to Samuel McIntire with whom he worked on many of Salem's houses. Between 1807 and 1809 he was at 27 Hanover Street in Boston, but by 1810 the city directories list him at 61 Middle Street. By 1822, he was settled in Newport, Rhode Island and received enough patronage to support him the rest of his life. Cornè is well represented in public and private collections including the American Antiquarian Society, Worcester, Massachusetts, the Peabody-Essex Museum of Salem, Bowdoin College Museum of Art, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, New Haven Colony Historical Society, the New York Historical Society, Newport Historical Society, Redwood Library and Athenaeum, Rhode Island Historical Society, the Smithsonian Institution, the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities, the United States Department of State, the United States Naval Academy...

Shawn Faust, "Wise Dan" 24x24 Horse and Jockey Velazquez Equine Oil Painting
By Shawn Faust
Located in Saratoga Springs, NY
This equine piece, "Wise Dan" is a 24x24 oil painting on canvas by artist Shawn Faust depicting a racehorse Wise Dan with jockey John R. Velazquez mounted atop. An intriguing crop on the composition pulls the viewer inward, emanating a contemporary feeling. Pops of color from Velazquez's vibrant yellow silks stand out against the neutral gray background Wise Dan is a 16 year old gelding that was born in 2007 and raced from 2010 to 2014. He was sired by Wiseman's Ferry out of the Wolf Power mare Lisa Danielle. He was trained by Charles LoPresti and raced for Morton Fink, and was bred in Kentucky, United States by Morton Fink. Wise Dan has raced at Churchill Downs, Keeneland, Presque Isle Downs, Santa Anita Park, Saratoga, Turfway Park, Woodbine with wins at Churchill Downs, Keeneland, Presque Isle Downs, Santa Anita Park, Saratoga, Turfway Park, Woodbine. His stakes wins include wins in the 2014 Turf Mile (G1), 2014 Bernard Baruch (G2), 2014 Turf Classic Stakes (G1), 2014 Maker's 46 Mile (G1), 2013 Breeders' Cup Mile (G1), 2013 Woodbine Mile (G1), 2013 Fourstardave Handicap (G2), 2013 Firecracker (G2), 2013 Turf Classic Stakes (G1), 2013 Maker's 46 Mile (G1), 2012 Breeders' Cup Mile (G1), 2012 Turf Mile (G1), 2012 Woodbine Mile (G1), 2012 Fourstardave Handicap (G2), 2012 Ben Ali (G3), 2011 Clark Stakes (G1), 2011 Fayette Stakes (G2), 2011 Presque Isle Mile (LS), 2011 Firecracker (G2), and the 2010 Phoenix (G3). About the artist: Shawn’s love and fascination for drawing came as an unexpected gift from his grandfather at the age of 5. Young Faust was a tag-a-long during his grandfather’s impromptu plein air art lesson with his older brother in the back yard of his Aunt’s house. A retired director for the American Red Cross, Shawn’s grandfather, who had only recently picked up the brush himself, began a charcoal sketch that would forever change how Faust would see the world. From that brief lesson, Faust recalls vividly, “The techniques I witnessed from my grandfather that day, were pure magic!” With his newfound gift of magic, Shawn quickly began practicing his art of 3D illusion for anyone who wanted to see it. During his childhood, you would be hard pressed not to find Shawn doodling on a piece of paper at some point during the day. Among his favorite things to draw as a youngster were his comic book heroes. Instead of reading the comics, he spent all his time studying the line work and muscle forms of the comic book characters. And so, began his interest in portraying the human form. Upon entering college at the University Of Delaware, Shawn enrolled as an accounting major yet emerged with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 1990. At the U of D he is forever grateful for the privilege of studying under distinguished artists Stephen Tanis, Charles Rowe, Robert Straight...

"Come Together - Love (On Black & White)" Pop Painting with Paper Butterflies
By Laila Jalallar
Located in New York, NY
This piece is executed with hundreds of hand cut butterflies, and comes displayed in an acrylic shadow box. These works conjure sensations of nostalgia, created from maps, cutting out words, symbols, and places to create feelings of unity within the piece. Standing in juxtaposition with the contrast to clean, pixelated designs that the butterflies form, Laila creates a Heart that pops off the canvas in three-dimension.
