Doris Leslie Blau Authentic 19th Century French Aubusson Handmade Rug
Located in New York, NY
Authentic 19th Century French Aubusson Red Handmade Wool Rug Size: 18'0" × 18'7" (548 × 566 cm) A mid-19th century French Aubusson rug of exceptional vitality, having a midnight blue field with gold architectural vinery forming a reciprocal red, blue and beige central medallions within a broad midnight blue vinery border. The Savonnerie carpet factory, located on the site of the present Musee d’Art Moderne, inherited its name from the soap making factory it took over at the behest of Louis XIII. From 1660 until 1743 Savonnerie was a manufacture royale, carrying out commissions for French Aubusson rugs and carpets specifically designed for the Royal Palaces. In the 1770s, the tapestry looms at Aubusson in the Creuze Valley near Limoges were converted to produce flat-woven antique oriental rugs and carpets...

Antique Voysey Arts & Crafts Rug in Green with Floral Patterns
Located in Long Island City, NY
Hand-knotted in wool circa 1900-1910, this 9x11 antique Arts & Crafts rug is believed to be a rare work from C.F.A. Voysey. On the Design: This particular Voysey rug is believed to originate in Ireland, given its similarities to Donegal rugs of this provenance. Its design further hosts the quintessential open field that connoisseurs often associate with this artist’s signature style—though open field designs are especially collectible in handmade rugs today. The colorway enjoys chartreuse and similar greens, with bright blues and pinks in its borders and floral patterns. Its particular use of botanicals and garlands around the field lead the eye naturally to the more subtle patterns in the center—almost akin to greenery around rippling water in a pond, like many paintings of the same movement in this era. Connoisseurs will admire this as a collectible as much as an elegant masterpiece of its period—exemplary of Voysey’s European rugs. Condition: This antique botanical rug...
