Circa 1900 Iron Knight Statue Cigar Cutter and Candle Holder from France
Located in Dallas, TX
Truly a one-of-a-kind item, this four foot tall cigar cutter with candle holder is in the shape of an armored knight holding a lance. Our knight was crafted in iron and adorned with brass nailheads along his full set of armor, including a gold (brass) visor of his plumed helmet. There are also nailheads on the trapezoidal base with concave sides. A functional cigar cutter for a small gauge cigar, such as a panatela or perhaps even a cigarillo, the blade is incorporated into the plume of the helmet. By lifting the plume, a small aperture is revealed, allowing the cigar to be inserted; cutting occurs when the plume is pushed down, with the refuse being captured by a small protrusion behind the helmet visor. A bracket on both sides of the torso would have been used to hold matches for lighting the candle that would have sat in the bobeche at the top of the lance (the holder is designed for candles between and inch and 1 ¼” in diameter). Given the height of the lance, the tobacco would have been lit directly from the candle. Ideally suited for a bar area or a gentleman’s office, our knight statue...
