Roy Fairchild-Woodard was born in 1953 in Surrey, England. He currently lives and works most of the year in the peaceful environment of his Country home. The rest of the year he travels throughout Europe; Italy in particular, to obtain new sources of inspiration. His affinity with Italy is the painters of the Renaissance, especially their frescos, tapestries and paintings.
The plasterwork of the frescos is alluded to in his use of plaster as a base for his acrylic and oil overpaints. Also the influence of Egon Schiele and Gustave Klimpt can be seen in his occasional reference of line and decoration.
He received a degree in graphic design and started working under the name Woodard to produce more commercial...

William Hogarth was an English painter and engraver, the outstanding British artist of his period. During his childhood, his father, a schoolteacher, was imprisoned for debt, and this early experience of the seamy side of life left a deep mark on Hogarth (much of his output is concerned with the contrast between success and failure, and he depicted prisons in several works). He trained as an engraver of silver plate and by 1720 had set up his own business in London, doing various kinds of commercial work. In his spare time he studied painting, first at the St Martin's Lane Academy and later under Sir James Thornhill, whose daughter he married in 1729. By the early 1730s he had achieved some success as a painter of conversation pieces and at about the same time he invented the idea of using a sequence of anecdotal pictures ‘similar to representations on the stage’ to point a moral and satirize social abuses.
From a set of 12 original engravings illustrating Industry and Idleness, after the drawings by William Hogarth, printed in 1833. The engravers are F Jordan, E Smith, C Armstrong, S Davenport, H Adlard, W H Worthington, H Fernell, A Duncan and F F Walker. This poster was a British propaganda piece issued during World War II by the National Savings Committee. It was part of the broader campaign to encourage citizens to invest in National Savings Certificates, War Bonds, and Defence Bonds to financially support the war effort. The poster features a convoy of merchant ships sailing under the Union Jack, emphasising the vital role of maritime trade and supply lines in the war effort. Its slogan, 'convoy your country to victory', also instills a strong sense of patriotism as it draws a direct link between the public's purchase of saving bonds and national war victory.
Rowland Hilder was a well known landscape artist and book illustrator. Born in New York state, his English father moved the family to Kent, England in 1915. It was here his natural talent for drawing was noticed by his school. Later Hilder went to study at Goldsmith’s College in London.
