"Market Tents" Modern Abstract Pastel Toned Cubist Style Street Scene
By Romeo Tabuena
Located in Houston, TX
Modern abstract pastel toned street scene by Philippine-born artist Romeo Tabuena. The work features a street scene with shadow figures browsing under a white tarp. Signed and dated in the front upper left corner. Currently hung in a grey toned frame.
Dimensions Without Frame: H 19.75 in. x W 31.75 in.
Artist Biography: Romeo Tabuena is a Philippine-born painter rooted in Eastern sensibility. He has been a resident of Mexico for more than four decades.
Born in Lloilo in 1921, he studied architecture at the Mapua Institute of Technology and a fine arts course, majoring in painting, at the University of the Philippines. He also studied at the Art Students League in New York and at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris.
Tabuena decided to settle in Mexico and to make it the base of his painting career. But he has maintained links with his native country through participation in its major art projects, and despite his long residence in Mexico, he has retained his Philippine citizenship.
One of his major works since 1957 is a government-commissioned mural, Filipiniana, at the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. His other exhibits include a ten-year retrospective show in 1959 at the Philippine Art Gallery in Manila. In 1962, his successful one-man show, which was sponsored by the Philippine Government at the International Salon of the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City, "further elevated the status of Philippine painting...

White Roses Oil Florence Academy Oil The Enchanting Fragrance of Roses
Located in Houston, TX
Samuel S.Hoskins Statement on White Roses:
"White Roses" is an endeavor to evoke the enchanting fragrance of roses. One of the most delightful aspects of living in Florence, Italy, is cycling through the outskirts of the city in spring after a refreshing rain shower. The rain seems to awaken the scents of various flora. I utilized Viridian Green and Cerulean Blue to capture the cool contrast that rain imparts to the flowers, seeking to encapsulate the sensory experience of those post-rain, blossoming moments.

"A Harlot's Progress" Plate 3 Etching
By William Hogarth
Located in Houston, TX
Etching from the series titled "A Harlots Progress" by William Hogarth. The series consists of six paintings and engravings. The story is about a woman named M. Hackabout who arrived in London and started working as a prostitute. The third plate is of her getting arrest for her choice in profession. The series is a satirical story that emphasizes the dangers of being a prostitute and the health risks that come from it.
In 18th century engraving, the detail of the black mole on women and men's face is a symbol of the deadly venereal disease, syphilis. In this plate, Hackabout has already contracted the disease and that is why the black dot is visible on her forehead as well as her madam's.
In 1828, William Innell Clement published Harlot's Progress in columns on a single page of his newspaper Bell's Life in London #330. The detail with the cross seen in earlier reproductions of the engraving.
Dimensions without Frame: H 14.5 in x W 16.5 in.
Artist Biography: William Hogarth ( 10 November 1697 – 26 October 1764) was an English painter, printmaker, pictorial satirist, social critic, and editorial cartoonist. His work ranged from realistic portraiture to comic strip-like series of pictures called "modern moral subjects", perhaps best known to be his moral series A Harlot's Progress, A Rake's Progress and Marriage A...
