Sergio Barletta (1934) is an Italian cartoonist and illustrator, who has also published some humorous and political satire books.
From the age of 22 is active in Rome, where he worked as an illustrator and art director in some monthly magazines like “Costume”, Diners Club house organ, BP Review, IBM, and others. In 1965 started the joint-working with Marino Gallery in Rome, and in 1966 in Milan with Humour Graphic’s group, at Levi Gallery and others in the following years. In these years graphic work and illustration are mixed with painting and photography, also with satirical drawings for Rinascita, weekly of the Italian communist party; Azione Sociale, weekly of ACLI Catholic Workers Association; movie posters, advertising for Gucci, some writings for Popular Photography Italiana, lay-outs, writings and illustrations for Avinews, bimonthly for tour operators and so on. During the eighties he starts a long co-operation with satirical weekly “Il Sale”, complemented by a book with Ottaviano edizioni in Milan and others publications in Turin and Rome, all of satirical drawings. In this period he collaborates with Linus, the most important Italian comics monthly, and Harakiri, a humour weekly published in France. Renato Guttuso (Bagheria, 1911 – Rome, 1987). His father Gioacchino, a land-surveyor and amateur watercolourist, and his mother Giuseppina d’Amico, due to disagreements with their own town depending on their liberal ideas, registered the birth on 2 January 1912 in Palermo. In his birthplace Guttuso discovered painting at a very early age; as he himself wrote: “… among my father’s watercolours, the studio of the painter Domenico Quattrociocchi and the workshop of the cart painter Emilio Murdolo my path was taking shape when I was six, seven, ten years old…”.Guttuso was awarded the Lenin Prize at the time of his exhibition at the Art Academy in Moscow, 1972. Hans Erni (1909-2015) . He Undertook technical studies, but after his first encounter with art literature in 1927, he set out to study art in Lucerne. He studied in Berlin and Paris, where he had the opportunity to associate with artists who would mark his artistic
evolution: Kandinsky, Mondrian, Brancusi, Calder and, in particular, Georges Braque and Picasso. The influence of the latter on his graphic trait was such as to earn him the nickname of Swiss Picasso.
He followed a period of travel to Belgium, Italy and, in the late 1930s, London where he encountered abstract art. Here he frequented the painter Ben Nicholson and the sculptors Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth, among the leading exponents of English
abstract art. From 1930 to 1934 he worked under the pseudonym François Grèque. He was one of the founders of the abstract art group Allianz. In 1950 he made his first pottery.
In the 1950s he worked for UNESCO and the World Health Organization. For the Principality of Liechtenstein he designed two series of stamps: "Winter Olympics" and "Summer Olympics". He also produced other sets of stamps for the United Nations and the
Swiss Post, as well as numerous portraits of celebrities, such as Albert Einstein.
