By (after) Keith Haring
Located in NEW YORK, NY
1990s Keith Haring exhibition poster: Original Exhibition poster for Keith Haring at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, May 08-September 08, 1998; an exhibit which featured a complete retrospective of Haring's work, from his childhood doodles and early New York subway drawings to large-scale paintings during his final years. Off-set lithograph on heavy wove paper. 24 x 36 inches. Unsigned from an edition of unknown. Bright, vibrant colors. Some minor signs of handling; otherwise very good overall. Contains trademark of Haring Estate on lower center edge. Further Background: Image featured in this poster is Haring's, "Drawing for Headstand 1988. De Young Museum's regarding Haring's symbolism here: "Human figures depicted upside-down are usually B-boys and B-girls, the dancers of hip-hop, doing the iconic move in which they spin on their head. Figures contorting in backbends or jumps are probably also depictions of break dancers." Haring’s work has long been a part of San Francisco’s visual culture. He created works for diverse venues in San Francisco during his lifetime, including murals for DV8, a club once located in the South of Market neighborhood, and a huge, multi-panel painting for the South of Market Childcare Center (also known as the Saint Patrick's Daycare Center). Haring’s outdoor sculpture Untitled (Three Dancing Figures) (1989), located at Third and Howard Streets, is a prominent feature of Moscone Convention Center, and his triptych altarpiece The Life of Christ (1990) is installed in the AIDS Chapel at Grace Cathedral...

By Frank Benson
Located in New York, NY
"The Bridge" is a drypoint by Frank Benson created in 1923. Printed in an edition of 150 this impression is signed in pencil, lower left. The image size is 13 1/2 x 10 5/8" (34.2 x 26.8 cm) and sheet size 16 1/2 x 13 1/16" (41.8 x 33.3 cm). FRANK W. BENSON (1862-1951) Frank Weston Benson, well known for his American impressionist paintings, also produced an incredible body of prints - etchings, drypoints, and a few lithographs. Born and raised on the North Shore of Massachusetts, Benson, a natural outdoorsman, grew up sailing, fishing, and hunting. From a young age, he was fascinated with drawing and birding – this keen interest continued throughout his life. His first art instruction was with Otto Grundman at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and then in 1883 in Paris at the Academie Julian where he studied the rigorous ‘ecole des beaux arts’ approach to drawing and painting for two years. During the early 1880’s Seymour Haden visited Boston giving a series of lectures on etching. This introduction to the European etching...

Margaret Roleke, We Do Our Part, 2018, monoprint, collage, silkscreen, 30 x 22
By Margaret Roleke
Located in Darien, CT
Margaret Roleke's work explores sensationalism, consumerism and the crazy contradictions and relationships that develop when popular culture mixes with war and religion. The Trump presidency has pushed her to be further involved as a political activist and artist. Many new pieces deal with protest and resistance. But the major theme which she has been exploring for several years is gun violence. Using spent shotgun shells and brass, as well as, paper targets in much of her work, from a distance the viewer is not sure what these colorful spent shotgun pieces are. Only upon closer examination does one realize that they are actually made from spent bullets. The environmental plastic waste is also an issue she explores in her work. A percentage of all of Roleke's sales are donated to organizations that work for gun control. Roleke's new silkscreens and cyanotypes deal with the issues of putting families in cages, and the dismantling of the ideas of life, liberty and justice for all...
