Published Pre-Columbian Nicoya Ceremonial Stone Seat, Ex Arizona Museum
Located in San Pedro Garza Garcia, Nuevo Leon
Nicoya Ceremonial Basalt Stone Seat in Shape of a Jaguar. Published in the Arizona Museum.
This large and finely carved example of Costa Rican skill and craftsmanship is in the form of a jaguar which may have been a lineage or clan symbol - as also was the crocodile - according to 16th-century Spanish conquistadors. There are so many features that make this masterpiece so unique. The most realistic depiction is the face with its head captured in a pose that is threatening and fierce.
Sculptors in ancient Central America developed elaborate metate forms that were associated with high status and wealth. They were commonly placed within graves of prominent individuals. Certain ancient rituals must have incorporated this activity and required special metates to be created for this purpose. It may have also served as a throne for the ruler, for whom the assurance of the fertility of his land and people would have been paramount.
Even today, stone metates...

Introducing "The Quest Within: A Journey of Colors and Decisions" by EVera, an exciting new series of abstract, modern, and contemporary artworks. EVera's iconic style comes to life through vibrant colors, graffiti-inspired backgrounds, and his signature white lines. The series features a juxtaposition of black and white paintings that symbolize the choices we make in life—some good, some bad—working together like puzzle pieces to fulfill our personal quests. Each artwork in "The Quest Within" is a visual representation of the challenges and opportunities we encounter on our journey. EVera skillfully uses a dynamic interplay of colors to evoke emotions and convey different aspects of the human experience. The graffiti-inspired backgrounds add an urban edge, hinting at the chaotic yet interconnected nature of life's decisions. The white lines, a distinctive feature of EVera's style, serve as both guides and barriers within the compositions. They represent the paths we choose and the obstacles we face, encouraging viewers to contemplate the consequences of their actions. As the viewer explores the collection, they become part of a larger puzzle, realizing that the choices they make are crucial in shaping their ultimate destination. "The Quest Within" challenges us to reflect on our own decision-making process and the impact it has on our lives. EVera's artistic vision reminds us that life is an ongoing quest, where we must navigate through the complexities of our choices to discover the best path for ourselves. With each painting, EVera encourages us to embrace the puzzle of life...
