"The Conversation (Nicole Kidman & Meryl Streep)" Abstract Fashion Photography
By Landon Nordeman
Located in Atlanta, GA
Landon Nordeman is inspired by the work of Garry Winogrand and William Eggleston. Nordeman's unique point of view, characterized by National Geographic senior picture editor Sadie Quarrier, as "delightful, bold and unexpected," provided his audience - many of whom follow his work on his Instagram feed - with a fresh perspective on the world of fashion. "Photography for me is about discovery and appreciation," states Nordeman. "It is a way of probing the world, and making pictures to satisfy my curiosity." Landon Nordeman (born 1974, NYC) has photographed around the world for fine art projects as well as commercial clients. American Photography, Communication Arts, Pictures of the Year International, The PDN Photo Annual, The Best of Photojournalism, The Center for Documentary Studies, PDN's 30, The Society for Publication Design and The James Beard Foundation have all commended his work. BASQUIAT Dancing at The Mudd Club, 1979 (Basquiat Boom For Real photograph)
By Nicholas Taylor
Located in NEW YORK, NY
'Jean Michel Basquiat Dancing at The Mudd Club', New York City, 1979: This rare Basquiat photograph was taken from Nicholas Taylor’s well-documented portfolio exploring his friendship with Jean-Michel Basquiat - a friendship which began when both collaborated on the historic New York No Wave band, “GRAY” in the late 1970s; before the two briefly lived together in the East Village. Selections from Taylor's portfolio were most notably exhibited as part of the Basquiat retrospective at London's Barbican in 2017 and have been featured in numerous noteworthy publications on Basquiat. Archival inkjet print on 310gsm fiber based paper. 11 x 14 inches (including borders). Hand signed & numbered from an edition of 50. Provenance: Obtained directly from artist. Shipped flat using protective materials. Lot 180 gallery is an authorized dealer rep of Nick Taylor. Taylor’s insightful photographs of a young Basquiat have been featured in numerous world renown publications, exhibits and documentaries surrounding Basquiat, among these: "How Music Powered Basquiat," The New York Times, 9/22/17 Sotheby's "Untitled, 1982;" catalog, May, 2017 Artnet, 9/18/17: Debunking Basquiat’s Myths The Mudd Club: Richard Boch, 2017 Jean-Michel Basquiat: 1981, The Studio of the Street; Diego Cortez King for a Decade: Jean Michel Basquiat; Taka Kawachi Exhibits: Basquiat: Boom For Real, The Barbican, London, 2017/2018. More on Nicholas Taylor: Nicholas Taylor (American, b. 1953) is a renowned photographer and musician. Taylor moved to New York in 1977 to pursue a career as a photographer and it was through the vibrant New York art scene that he came to know the young artist, Jean-Michel Basquiat. It was, in fact, his intimate portfolio of photographs documenting his friendship with Basquiat that rocketed Taylor to fame. The two would collaborate in the No Wave band “Gray” before Taylor launched a successful career as a DJ famous for track-looping. His track “Suicide Mode” would later be used in the soundtrack for Julian Schnabel’s 1996 film “Basquiat." Circa 1981, Basquiat payed homage to Taylor by incorporating "Nick Taylor" and "DJ High Priest" (a title anointed him by Basquiat) into two separate drawings. While everyone else in the downtown tries to take credit, it was in fact Taylor who first introduced Jean-Michel to Madonna - at the Mudd Club - the very place this one of a kind image was captured. More on The Mudd Club: In the 1970s New York City, uptown had the glitz of Studio 54 and downtown had the Mudd Club: a legendary, downtown art scene venue known for pushing the boundaries of nightlife. The space became a natural collision of fashion, art, music, and literature. And the list of guests who walked through the front door reflected that scene: musicians like Grace Jones, Madonna, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Debbie Harry, Fab Five Freddy, Marianne Faithfull, The Ramones, The Talking Heads, and Nico; fashion luminaries such as, Anna Sui, Betsey Johnson, and Gia Carangi...

Long exposure figurative Photography: 'Illuminations No. 44'
By Florence Montmare
Located in New York, NY
'Illuminations started in 2002 when a relationship was slowly falling apart. While trying to save it, we rented a large stylish apartment in Stockholm, and then later one in Arles, France, hoping that a change of scene would have a posi-tive effect. The new spaces made the distance between us more acute, and the inevitable break even more obvious. The ritual of making one photograph each night became crucial to me. I left the camera shutter open for 3 to 8 hours in a darkened bedroom, and as the morning light arrived I interrupted the exposure. It is a private journal, documenting time and memory, where present meets past.' Born in Vienna to Swedish and Greek parents and raised in Stockholm, Florence Montmare has an MBA in Design Management from Linnaeus University, Sweden and studied at the School of Visual Arts. A graduate of International Center of Photography, New York, she collaborated with artist Sam Samore...

NO.8
Located in New York, NY
A fan of photography since her early childhood, Mizrakli graduated from Yeditepe University in Istanbul, Interior Decoration Department, and continued her higher education in London, where she started out her work as a photographer. Later on, she moved to New York to further develop her career as a photographer and enrolled in classes at the Photography Department of the New York Film Academy. She received a Master’s Degree in photography in Los Angeles, where she is currently based. Mizrakli has conducted many shooting sessions for Mica Studios and Bullet Magazine in New York and had two solo exhibitions in Los Angeles. She has recently participated in the Contemporary Istanbul Exhibition (November 2013). In some of her black and white works she uses the human body only as a pictorial sign in order to create almost abstract works. First made anonymous, the female model is then cloned and circularly multiplied. The result is a kind of wheel in which the repeated human body gives birth to a new, seemingly vegetal or mineral structure. Thus, the human element seems to be transformed into different other natural...

Breath in Between - Figurative contemporary collage of torn photograph on paper
By Keun Young Park
Located in New York, NY
Keun Young Park depicts the body in a state of transformation. Her works on paper show floating figures, faces, draped arms and cupped hands, which appear to be disintegrating and reforming at once. The artist begins her process with original photographs keyed to various evocative hues. The images are shredded by hand into thousands of tiny pieces that are then reassembled. Between the pasted pieces are thin, white, vein-like lines that reveal the texture of the paper's edge. Park's practice has a relationship to the precision of Pointillism, the uniformity of Benday dots and the repetition of digital pixilation but her works retain a tactile, hand-made quality through the irregularly shaped elements from which they are formed. "I intend to reflect upon the a-static character of existence in the flow of time…I attempt to capture the tremor of unstable presence," writes Park. Each work vibrates with a quiet energy, conjuring up thoughts of both the beginning of life and its end. This sense of disembodiment is balanced with a fullness of form and physicality that is derived from the artist's earlier practice as a sculptor. ------------ "In my work, I reflect upon the ecstatic character of existence in the flow of time as well as the opposite sides of nature – negative and positive, construction and destruction, presence and absence, and life and death. I believe that everything is constantly changing, either being generated or destroyed. Presence is just a state of being and the reality of an object has ambiguity in this shifting. In my recent work, the micro-collage or paper mosaic, I capture the tremor of unstable presence. I take pictures of parts of the body or face, change the color and saturation of those images by Photoshop and print them out on paper. Then, I tear the pictures and paste them back together piece-by-piece.
