Millard Sheets, Family Flats, 1935 (Los Angeles, CA, Depression-era tenements
By Millard Sheets
Located in New York, NY
Signed, titled, and numbered, in pencil. The proposed edition was 100 although it is very unlikely that these were printed. This large and intensely urban lithograph, Family Flats, by Millard Sheets, portrays the Bunker Hill neighborhood of Los Angeles. Now drastically changed, it's still home to the Angels Flight funicular railway built in 1901. Sheets (1907-1989) was a painter, watercolorist, printmaker, mosaic artist, and teacher, who worked in Southern California. He attended the Chouinard Art institute and studied with F. Vintage Robert Rauschenberg poster (Rauschenberg prints)
By Robert Rauschenberg
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Robert Rauschenberg at Leo Castelli Gallery 1986: Vintage original Robert Rauschenberg exhibition poster published by Castelli Graphics in conjunction with the exhibition, Robert Rauschenberg: Tibetan Keys and Locks, May 21-June 18, 1986 at Leo Castelli New York. A unique vintage Rauschenberg collectible featuring the artist's signature collage style. Well-sized and suitable for framing. Off-set lithograph 1986. 20 x 29.75 inches. Double-quattro fold-lines as originally issued; minor edge wear to one fold-line; otherwise very good condition (no rips, tears, stains, etc.) Scarce form an edition of unknown; unsigned. First edition, 1st printing; postmarked 1986 on the verso. Artist biography: Robert Rauschenberg’s enthusiasm for popular culture and, with his contemporary Jasper Johns, his rejection of the angst and seriousness of the Abstract Expressionists led him to search for a new way of painting. A prolific innovator of techniques and mediums, he used unconventional art materials ranging from dirt and house paint to umbrellas and car tires. In the early 1950s, Rauschenberg was already gaining a reputation as a true art world rebel rouser...

Virgin and Child with the Pear
By Hans Sebald Beham
Located in New York, NY
Hans Sebald Beham (1500-1550), Virgin and Child with the Pear, engraving, 1520. Initials monogram and date in the plate. References: Bartsch 18, Pauli, Hollstein 19. First state (of two). In good condition, on old laid paper with thread margins on three sides, trimmed on the platemark bottom right and bottom, and archival mounting. h: 4.5 x w: 3 in / h: 11.4 x w: 7.6 cm A very good impression of this rarity. Hollstein indicates that earlier impressions, such as this one, do not have a scratch above the head of the Virgin. Beham was one of the Northern Renaissance Little Masters, so called because of their eminence in producing small-scale engravings such as the Virgin and Child with a Pear. Beham was born in Nuremberg in 1500, and may have trained under Durer, though his training is no more certain than that of his younger brother Barthel. He made his first engraving in 1518, and later became known for producing woodcuts as well. Beham’s Madonna with the Pear has a similar composition but in reverse to Durer’s engraving...

Simon Frevalles
By Marcel Vertès
Located in New York, NY
Poster Adverting the Entertainer Simon Frevalles. 1923. Color lithograph. On Linen. An outstanding twentieth century painter, printmaker and illustrator, Marcel Vertes moved from his native Hungary to Paris during the First World War. The art of Marcel Vertes was at its peak during the vibrant and somewhat wild decade of the 1920’s. Concentrating upon scenes of Paris street life, portrayals of women and depictions of circus and cabaret acts, Vertes left a legacy of original lithographs and drawings that superbly capture the spirit of 1920’s Paris. Vertès is also responsible for the original murals in the Café Carlyle...

Keith Haring 1990 Memorial announcement (Keith Haring prints posters)
By (after) Keith Haring
Located in NEW YORK, NY
Keith Haring Memorial 1990: Original announcement to Keith Haring’s memorial exhibition, ‘Keith Haring Early Works on Paper,’ at Tony Shafrazi Gallery, 1990. The exhibition was held from May 4th to June 2nd, 1990. Printed on heavy stock textured paper; measures 7.25 x 7.25 inches. Very good condition. A classic, vintage Keith Haring collectible. Keith Haring was an American artist and social activist known for his illustrative depictions of figures and symbols. His white chalk drawings could often been found on the blank poster marquees in New York’s public spaces and subways. “I don't think art is propaganda,” he once stated. “It should be something that liberates the soul, provokes the imagination and encourages people to go further. It celebrates humanity instead of manipulating it.” Born on May 4, 1958 in Reading, PA, he grew up in neighboring Kutztown, where he was inspired to draw from an early age by Walt Disney cartoons and his father who was an amateur cartoonist. After briefly studying commercial art in Pittsburgh, Haring came across a show of the works of Pierre Alechinksy and decided to pursue a career in fine art instead. He moved to New York in the late 1970s to attend the School of Visual Arts, and soon immersed himself in the city’s graffiti culture. By the mid-1980s, he had befriended fellow artists Andy Warhol, Kenny Scharf, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, and collaborated with celebrities like the singer Grace Jones. Diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in 1988, Haring’s prodigious career was brief, and he died of AIDS-related complications on February 16, 1990 at the age of 31. Before his death, Haring established the Keith Haring Foundation, a non-profit committed to raising awareness of the illness through art programing and community outreach. Throughout his career, Haring made his art widely available through the location of his murals, as well as through the Pop Shop—Haring's own storefront which he used to sell his memorabilia. The artist’s mural Crack is Wack (1986), can still be seen today on a retaining wall along FDR Drive in Manhattan. Haring’s works can be found in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C.
