Antique French Country bleached pinewood stick and ball drying rack. Sourced from France, this piece was created in the 1800s. Made of bleached pine wood, this drying rack was made to dry fresh herbs. Herbs were picked from the garden, tied up, and hung upside down. Later the herbs would be used in a variety of dishes. Scorched Bamboo or what is also commonly referred to as tortoise or tiger bamboo, breakfast tray, lap or bed tray. This lovely 1930s piece is composed of rattan, bamboo, and cane. The top portion where food is served is covered in a woven cane affixed to a wood board. Pieces of bamboo line the edges in small slats. To the side (either the left or right side, as it is reversible) is a small area for placing magazines, books or the morning paper. The bottom of this magazine rack is in wood.
The tray's legs are made up of bentwood and are rounded. The sides of each leg feature bamboo or rattan details up both sides. Room for a guest's legs to slip through are just next to the magazine holder.
