19th Century Hand-Woven Kashmiri Paisley "Piano" Shawl
Located in Barrington, IL
A refined 19th-century hand-woven Paisley shawl from Northwest India, showcasing a sophisticated color palette of brick red, ivory, and black. Crafted in the Kashmir region, this historic textile represents the pinnacle of Indian weaving traditions and is often referred to as a "Piano Shawl" for its wide rectangular shape and decorative appeal when draped over furniture.
The shawl features classic boteh (paisley) motifs that became emblematic of Kashmiri craftsmanship. These designs gained international popularity during the 1800s, particularly after Queen Victoria introduced them into royal fashion. This style inspired a wave of European imitations, notably in Paisley, Scotland—yet original Indian examples like this remain the most coveted by collectors.
Versatile in use, this antique textile can serve as a luxurious wall hanging, a dramatic table or piano covering, or an elegant bed display. It’s a timeless heirloom piece, ideal for traditional, eclectic, or globally inspired interiors.
Dimensions: 63” x 63”

19th Century Hand-Woven Paisley Shawl
Located in Barrington, IL
An exquisite 19th-century hand-woven Paisley shawl from Northwest India, featuring an elegant color palette of brick red, ivory, black, and green. This historic textile showcases a finely detailed paisley border, with larger stylized boteh (paisley) motifs at each end. The central field is rendered in a contrasting solid black, creating a striking visual balance and framing the intricate design.
Originating from Kashmir, these shawls—sometimes called “Paisley” or “Piano” shawls—became highly fashionable in Europe during the Victorian era, especially after Queen Victoria popularized them. The design and craftsmanship of these Indian shawls later inspired the iconic production of similar pieces in Paisley, Scotland, throughout the 19th century.
This richly woven textile can be elegantly draped over a table or bed or displayed as a piece of wall art, making it an ideal statement in classic, bohemian, or globally inspired interiors. A rare and collectible piece of textile history that combines cultural heritage with timeless style.

Antique Phulkari Bawan Bagh Wedding Shawl, Silk Embroidery Punjab India
By Rajhastani
Located in North Hollywood, CA
A rare pattern embroidered in silk on a hand loomed cotton background.
Punjab is known for its Phulkaris. The embroidery is done with floss silk thread on coarse handwoven cotton fabric. Geometrical patterns are usually embroidered on the Phulkaris.
Phulkaris and Baghs were worn by women all-over Punjab during marriage festivals and other joyous occasions. They were embroidered by the women for their own use and use of other family members and were not for sale in the market.
The most favoured color is red and its shades, because Bagh and Phulkari are used during marriage and other festivals. Red is also considered auspicious by Punjabi Hindus and Sikhs.
Phulkari (Punjabi) embroidery technique from the Punjab region of the Indian subcontinent, literally means flower work, which was at one time used as the word for embroidery, but in time the word “Phulkari” became restricted to embroidered shawls and head scarfs. Simple and sparsely embroidered odini (head scarfs), dupatta and shawls, made for everyday use, are called Phulkaris, whereas garments that cover the entire body, made for special and ceremonial occasions like weddings and birth of a son, fully covered fabric is called Baghs ("garden") and scattered work on the fabric is called "adha bagh" (half garden). This whole work is done with white or yellow silk floss on cotton khaddarh and starts from the center on the fabric called "chashm-e-bulbul" and spreads to the whole fabric.
All of our textiles are handmade and original designs, the making of which takes a lifetime to learn through communities of artisans passing knowledge and techniques from one generation to another.
