Carved Eagle on Circular Plaque, ca 1860-1876
Located in York County, PA
CARVED EAGLE ON A CIRCULAR PLAQUE, IN A VOLUPTOUOUS AND WHIMSICAL STYLE, WITH WINGS REMINISCNET OF THOSE ON TOMBSTONE ANGELS, 3rd QUARTER 19th CENTURY
Diminutive, hand-carved eagle on a circular plaque, found in Maine, with voluptuous form and wings reminiscent of the angels found on early American tombstones. Different than anything I have seen and especially pleasing to the eye, the gold-painted surface is early, save for at the tips of each wing, which I restored due to losses endured between the mid-19th century (likely during the 3rd quarter) and the present. The wood is pine. The carving was formerly part of the personal collection of Maine antiques...

Masterpiece tramp art carving: "THE GRADUATE"
This exceptional tramp art figure and podium, nicknamed "The Graduate", is one of the best pieces of this genre of work that I have ever seen. If the form is outstanding, the painted surface is better, scoring a firm ten out of ten.

A petite German late 19th century Tramp Folk Art Wall Cupboard Cabinet. This petite Folk Art piece, circa 1880 comes from Germany and features a finely carved work with distressed Mirrors.
It is a great example of the Tramp Art style, an art movement popular between the 1870s and the 1940s all around the world, particularly in Germany. It is characterized by the use of small pieces of wood from cigar boxes and shipping crates to create utilitarian items such as boxes and picture frames. Large Signed Native American Hopi Original Mudhead Kachina Katsina Doll on Stand
By Native American Art
Located in Studio City, CA
A wonderfully handcrafted/detailed and decorated Native American Hopi Mudhead Kachina doll. Quite an unusually large work. A striking piece overall. Hand painted with leather and possibly turquoise (necklace) accompaniment.
Hopi katsina figures, also known as kachina dolls, are figures carved, typically from cottonwood root by the Hopi people. Initially, kachina dolls were made to instruct young girls and new brides about katsinas or katsinam, the immortal beings that bring rain, control other aspects of the natural world and society, and act as messengers between humans and the spirit world. The Mudhead or Koyemsi figure is viewed as a clown/joker figure who is responsible for laughter and entertainment at Hopi dances and ceremonial events. He plays drums and games to keep his audience engaged.
The piece is signed by the artist under the base.
From an extensive collection of Native American objects and artifacts. Would be a great addition to any Native American Art...

Oversized, Paint-Decorated Baseball Bat Presented to J. Whipple
Located in York County, PA
Over-sized, Paint-Decorated Baseball Bat, Presented To "J. Whipple" of the "Erie Baseball Club," circa 1858-1870s
This remarkable bat, the best 19th century example that I have ever seen, was was presented to "J. Whipple" of the "Erie Baseball Club."
Painted red, white, blue, and black, the bat it is decorated in gold with the club's crest. The inscribed date of 1871 may have been added later. This could certainly be accurate in terms of its year of use, though it may actually pre-date this. In combination with the date of the Erie Baseball Club of Buffalo, the painted surface and crest suggest a date between 1858 and perhaps the 1870's at the latest. The graphics of the crest are more indicative of the mid-19th century than the latter decades.
The "J. Whipple" on the bat may have been Joseph Oliver Whipple of Buffalo, New York (b. abt. 1830 in NY, d. 14 Oct 1884 in Buffalo, NY -- died in the Erie Canal). There was a baseball club by that name in Buffalo, founded in 1858. There were at least two other clubs by the same name, however, in the same period. One was located in Troy New York...
