Available for sale is this original watercolor by the British artist Frank Egginton which dates from the 1970s.
The painting is presented and supplied in a sympathetic contemporary frame (which is shown in these photographs), mounted using conservation materials and behind non-reflective Tru Vue UltraVue® UV70 glass.
This vintage painting is in very good condition, it wants for nothing and is supplied ready to hang and display.
The watercolor is signed lower left.
Frank Egginton was a British contemporary landscape artist, synonymous with watercolours of the Irish countryside, particularly county Donegal. He came from an artistic family, with his father being the well-known artist Wycliffe Egginton (1875-1951), and his nephew was the artist Robert Egginton. His daughter and son in law have run The Gallery in Dunfanaghy, Co. Donegal for many years.
Frank (officially Francis John) Egginton was born in Wallasey in the county of Cheshire on 10 November 1908. When he was a baby the family moved to Newton Abbott in Devon, as his father had been appointed headmaster of the College of Art there.
Frank was educated at Newton College, and then Newton Abbott College of Art, and Exeter School of Art. He then spent some time perfecting his drawing whilst working in an architect’s office. In 1921 the family moved again to Teignmouth in Devon.

Throughout the 1990s Robert Macdonald lived in an isolated cottage with no road access high in the hills overlooking the Usk Valley. His work became a meditation on the landscape, the farming life and also the legends of the Brecon Beacons area. Three years ago he became the first elected president of the Royal Watercolour Society of Wales and he is a past chair of the Welsh Group, the senior association of artists in Wales, and a director of the Swansea Print Workshop.
Before coming to Brecon he worked and painted for many years in London and his move to Wales, prompted by his Welsh-born wife Annie, was in a way a return to his own rural roots. Born in 1935, much of his early life was spent in rural communities, not in Wales but as a war-time evacuee on Somerset farms and, from the age of 10, in the New Zealand back country. Charming painting by Leon. Rowe, dated on the back as June 1950. Inscribed to the back as a morning sketch in a market in Gent. It depicts a bustling market place, accessed though a stone archway. You can almost hear the clamour of people in this scene, it was clearly a very nice morning.
Belgium and Luxembourg were two of Rowe's favourite destinations for his painting trips overseas. Often incorporating figures into his work, his style is very similar to Thomas Morley's paintings of French and Belgian market town scenes.
Signed front lower right. To the back are his signature again, date and the inscription. This work forms part of a watercolour collection we currently hold by Rowe.
