At school I spent most of my time in the art department. I then went on to do a one year foundation course at Carlisle College of Art. It was here that I learnt the art of printmaking and then continued my studies at the Norwich School of Art doing a degree in graphic design. Keen to move to London I found my first job as a graphic designer with John Nash and Friends and my second with Michael Peters and Partners. I went on to win a D&AD (Design and Art Directors Club of Great Britain) silver award for the very first greeting stamps issued by the Royal Mail. In the last war our airmen were alone in the sky - dependent only on their wings and their wits. Now they find their way, are warned of danger, know their course, their height, their speed, can calculate their change - by the instruments that keep them in touch with the world. Several miles aloft, a hundred miles away, in glorious combat, in desperate danger - it is you who warn, speed, comfort and save them. Britain owes you many precious lives.
Born in New Zealand Owen Miller worked his passage to London as a deckhand and worked as an illustrator for J Lyons & Co. In 1942 he began work for the Ministry of Aircraft Production and after the war produced posters for National Savings.
Born in Auckland and educated at Wellington College he worked as an artist in New Zealand, working with the Maori peoples and as an illustrator for a Wellington newspaper.
Finding working life difficult in New Zealand during the depression he signed on as a deckhand working his passage to the UK. Arriving at the Port of London with £5 to his name his first job was an illustrator for J Lyons & Co, the famous Corner Houses company. His greatest work there was to decorate the directors’ dining room as an aircraft interior. Following the outbreak of war Miller began to work for the Ministry of Aircraft Production in late 1942.
When Lord Beaverbrook commenced his term as Minister of Aircraft Production in May 1940 it was an industry beset with problems. Aircraft parts were produced in sufficient numbers, but assembly into flyable aircraft proved more challenging – the Castle Bromwich...

Contemporary artist, Jayson Lilley, is available at Wychwood Art. Jayson Lilley has worked at the forefront of printmaking for many years. His approach to the modern landscape isunique and fresh, in both technique and materials. Lilley’s work is knownfor its urban and architectural focus, zooming in on familiar landmarks andreproducing iconic vistas and structures from the metropolis. Hisinnovative printmaking practice combines silkscreen, painting and collagetechniques to construct vibrant scenes that are always accompanied byexpansive skies and which play on salience and colour.Lilley’s most recentcollection explores some of London’s more natural vistas, as hecontemplates the relationship between nature and the urban landscape. Inthese pieces, he combines silkscreen print with copper leaf and handdrawing to dramatic effect.Lilley graduated from the University for the Creative Arts in 2000 with aFirst Class honours degree in Visual Communication. He had an award-winning career in design before focussing on his artwork, and hisbackground in design is ever apparent in his visual style and methodology.He has exhibited widely across the UK and internationally. Recentaccolades include being shortlisted for the Westmorland Landscape Prize2019 and inclusion in the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition 2019. Lilley’s works are held in collections across the world including London,New York, Japan, Hong Kong and Moscow.
