Large Post Modernist Color Pop Art Metal Sculpture Memphis Milano Peter Shire LA
By Peter Shire
Located in Surfside, FL
Peter Shire (American, b. 1947) "Naked Lady," Painted metal, wire, and found industrial objects sculpture Dimensions: overall: 72"h x 30"w x 24"d Peter Shire (born 1947) is a Los Angeles, California artist. Shire was born in the Echo Park district of Los Angeles, where he currently lives and works. His sculpture, furniture, painting, prints and ceramics have been exhibited in the United States, Italy, France, Japan and Poland; Shire has been associated with the Memphis Group of designers, has worked on the Design Team for the XXIII Olympiad with the American Institute of Architects, and has designed public sculptures in Los Angeles and other California cities. Shire has been honored by awards for his contribution to the cultural life of the City of Los Angeles. He is an influential LA ceramicist along with and influenced by Ken Price and ceramic master Peter Voulkos. Of a similar mod vibe to Charlie Hewitt and Brad Howe. The Memphis Milano Group was an Italian design and architecture group founded in Milan by Ettore Sottsass in 1982 that designed Post modern furniture, fabrics, ceramics, glass, and welded, painted, metal objects from 1981 to 1988. The Memphis group's work often incorporated plastic laminate and was characterized by ephemeral design featuring colorful and abstract decoration as well as asymmetrical shapes, sometimes arbitrarily alluding to exotic or earlier styles. They drew inspiration from such movements as Art Deco and Pop Art, including styles such as the 1950s Kitsch and futuristic themes. Other members included Martine Bedin Michael Graves, Javier Mariscal, Nathalie du Pasquier, Matteo Thun and Marco Zanuso. He was included in the Sullivan Goss show L.A. in S.B. of Postwar and Contemporary California artists including Emerson Woelffer, Ynez Johnston, Peter Krasnow, Edgar Ewing. Their styles ran the gamut from Post Cubist Abstraction to Abstract Surrealism to Abstract Expressionism. In the rich soil of their efforts was grown the next generation of some of L.A.’s art superstars. As well as contemporary artists such as Ed Ruscha, David Hockney, Charles Arnoldi, Betye Saar, Frank Gehry, Kenton Nelson, Peter Shire, Patssi Valdez, and Dave Lefner. Property From The Collection Of Mrs Marietta Peabody Tree & The Late Ronald Tree
Located in Bristol, CT
w/ 356 lots Sotheby Parke Bernet New York October 8-9, 1976 9 1/4" x 8 3/4" Ronald Tree was a former editor of Forum Magazine who had moved to England in the 1930s and set up residence in the magnificent Ditchley Park Manor. A member of Parliament, Tree was also a friend of Churchill, who visited Ditchley Park often during the Second World War. After the war the Trees packed up the “country house” contents of the manor and moved it to New York, where they lived until the contents were sold at this auction. A wonderful auction of “country manor” furnishings and decorations. Churchill smoked and drank in these chairs... While involved with Huston and married to FitzGerald, Marietta began an affair with Ronald Tree, who was a grandson of retail magnate Marshall Field and MP for Harborough, Leicestershire. Tree and Peabody divorced their spouses at the end of World War II and married on July 26, 1947. Marietta moved into Tree's home, Ditchley Park, but found herself bored with English country life. Tree and most of his friends were Conservatives, and Democrat Marietta again found herself politically isolated. Their daughter Penelope was born in 1949. Short of money, Tree sold Ditchley and agreed to return to New York City with Marietta, her daughter Frances Fitzgerald and their own daughter, future '60s fashion model Penelope Tree...

Two of Cups I, Oil Painting
By Rachel Srinivasan
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
Two cups mirror each other, both overflowing with energetic, radiating light. Horses and bison frame the composition. The artwork is part of artist Rachel Srinivasan's tarot series. It represents relationships and love. Water, waves, vessel, and the color blue are all symbolic in the cosmology of tarot.

About the Artist
For Rachel Srinivasan, an idea is worth putting on a canvas only if it still feels exciting after a few days. Rachel enjoys mulling the idea over in her mind for some time before creating an artwork. She hopes viewers will engage with her work and wonder about the subject matter, shapes and colors. "My current work is all about creating a connection between the person on the canvas with the viewer," she explains. She prefers large paintings and sometimes even makes her own canvases. She currently lives in Arizona and enjoys baking rhubarb pies, reading, running and going to art museums.

La Salle Street, Rainy Day, Oil Painting
By Yangzi Xu
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
Artist Yangzi Xu depicts an iconic view of LaSalle Street in Chicago, facing south from the bridge. She rendered this piece in a warm muted palette, setting the stage to highlight sporadic lights and reflections on wet concrete. "My focus was to convey the mood and feeling a rainy day brings to my beloved city," shares Yangzi.

About the Artist
Artist Yangzi Xu captures a nostalgia for Chicago and its dramatic seasonal changes in her expressionist cityscapes. Having a full-time job and being a wife and mother, Yangzi makes a habit of painting everyday to keep her passion exciting and fresh. She keeps a queue of ideas and reference photos that she takes throughout the year. She looks through her references, tweaks and adds elements to them. Once inspiration strikes, Yangzi draws several sketches and begins to work with oils on canvas on multiple pieces at once - to keep each painting spontaneous and new. "I try to capture the paradox of life in the city, where one can be in a crowd and yet feel alone," Yangzi says. "My main intent is not to capture the physical reality of a scene, but to express my own moods and feelings to my audience." In her free time, Yangzi enjoys reading, with her current favorite genres being biographies and memoirs. Yangzi is an alumnus of DePaul University in Chicago.
