Artist Statement:
I design books, paint pictures, hide chocolate like a squirrel (meaning, I don't always remember where I put it), love to cook and bake, own and operate 22 hula hoops (not all at once), sometimes lose paintbrushes in my hair, get caught on doorknobs frequently, work too much (because I love it!), look for creative opportunities with EVERYTHING, love looking at academic paintings in person and spending time with my cats and husband. I love COLOR and DETAILS and SECRETS and STORIES and EVERYTHING about the creative process, especially the challenge and the hard work.
There are hidden secrets, wonders and joys of the world right under our noses every day. I enjoy creating art that celebrates the things that are often overlooked and taken for granted. When is the last time you really looked at the sky or the sprightly little rabbit in your yard? What does that dog of yours dream about? I think everyone needs to slow down and pay more attention to what's going on around them. With a little creative license, I aim to show you a magical way of looking at ordinary things.
Some history about me:
In the past, my primary focus was designing and illustrating album covers for a wide variety of recording artists across a great spectrum of music genres. My client list has included Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket, Peter Tork, Woody Allen, 88.5 WXPN and Austin Music. I have also done freelance work on books, toys, and textiles for clients including Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, McGraw Hill, and Running Press Books. Currently, I design books for Bookbaby in any and every genre and style that comes across my desk.

Christine McGinnis LaPelle, award winning artist, co-owner of Rodger LaPelle Galleries, artist and printmaker. McGinnis was the wife of fellow artist and printmaker, Rodger LaPelle. Together for over 60 years, they paved a way of life for new and upcoming artists in the Philadelphia arts community. A carriage house in Germantown in Awbury Arboretum was their home for over 50 years where Christine painted in her studio there. This was from the estate exhibition of the Rodger LaPelle Galleries, Philadelphia, PA, Entirely Absurd. Rodger LaPelle and his wife Christine McGinnis first emerged on the Philadelphia art scene by establishing a fine art printing studio. Here, they employed local artists and recent PAFA and art school graduates, ultimately founding the Rodger LaPelle Galleries in 1980. Representing such artists as David Lynch, Peter Paone, Paul Wunderlich, and Tom Palmore, among many others, the gallery established a distinct presence in the Philadelphia artistic community by offering works characterized by an absurdist surrealist aesthetic, often vacillating between the darkly surreal and hilariously nonsensical. Sci fi, robots, comets, space and animals all figured in this colorful jumble of surrealism, fantastic realism and whimsy.
RobitSuch works transport their viewers to places unfamiliar, perhaps haunting, revealing the artists' strange and disturbing impulses.
Artists who have exhibited at the Rodger LaPelle Galleries in Philadelphia include Rolland Becerra, Jimmy Bellew, Rachel Bess, and Alex Cohen. Additional artists who have shown their work there are Nick D'Angelo, Robert Waddington, Fred Danziger, Christine Cathers Donohue, and Bruce Evans. Other artists include James Farrah, David Febland, James Feehan, Clark Fox, Santiago Galeas, Reza Ghanad, Jason Godeke, Heather Godlewski, Paul Gorka, and Red Grooms. It was Henry Cross's portraits of horses belonging to the prominent breeders and trainers of the second half of the nineteenth century that won the artist renown as an animal painter. Born and raised in upstate New York, Cross's proficiency in both drafting and caricature was revealed while he was still a student at the Binghamton Academy, New York. In 1852, when he was only fifteen years old, Cross joined a traveling circus that took him to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and to the first of many Indian encampments that he would draw upon for subject matter throughout his career. Biographers differ as to the year Cross left for Europe, however, he was in Paris from 1852 to 1853 or 1854, where he studied with Rosa Bonheur, a highly esteemed French painter of horses. Upon Cross's return to the United States he was commissioned to paint the studs of wealthy horsemen, including those of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt, Robert Bonner, the owner-publisher of The New York Ledger, and "Copper King" Marcus Daly, whose 18,000 acre stock farm was reputed to be the greatest and most valuable horse ranch in the world.
Although Cross received the highest pay of any equine artist of his day (up to $35,000. for one order, according to The Horse Review of April 10, 1918, p. 328), he frequently joined traveling circuses and painted the locales where they visited.
