The Spider, 1942 (Histoire Naturelle - Textes de Buffon, B.353)
By Pablo Picasso
Located in Greenwich, CT
The Spider is an aquatint and drypoint print on chine from one of the deluxe copies of Picasso's 1942 Histoire Naturelle - Textes de Buffon series. The image size is 10.5 x 8 inches, unsigned as issued, and framed in a contemporary silver and gray moulding. One of about 36 prints that exist with Picasso's remarqued title in French, from the edition of 262 (there were 226 portfolios, some with additional sets on varying papers). Catalogue - Cramer #37 The exceptional etchings from Picasso’s Histoire Naturelle – Textes de Buffon are a masterful combination of sugar-lift aquatint and drypoint, showcasing a full range of gray tonalities. The etchings of animals, birds and insects are considered some of the most beautiful and most unusual examples of Picasso’s graphic work. Roger Lacourière, Picasso’s master printer, pulled the prints for each etching between 1939-1942. It was Lacourière who taught Picasso the sugar-lift aquatint technique which allowed him to mimic the effect of brushstrokes in these etched images. Picasso first explored the technique in his plates for the Vollard Suite, but it was in the creation of the Buffon images that he fully realized its stunning, painterly potential. For the edition, 226 portfolios were produced with the first thirty-six counting as deluxe compilations. These rare deluxe sets were on diverse papers (chine, japon or vergé ancien) and each included a complete additional suite showing Picasso’s title remarques along the bottom. As such, the remarqued versions of the prints are quite rare with just thirty-six of each produced for the edition (with the exception of The Wolf which is never remarqued – the image always fills the entire etching plate). These prints are based on the writings of French naturalist Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon, who extensively documented the natural world in his monumental work Histoire Naturelle. Picasso’s association with the project to illustrate parts of the Buffon came during a tumultuous time in European history – the prelude to, and early years of, World War II. As the continent was ravaged, Picasso lived through the disaster in Paris, which the Germans occupied in 1940. These prints could be seen as a political statement – Picasso channeling his artistic expression into a form of resistance art...

I Miss You Already (Ed. 9/25)
Located in Dallas, TX
"Many of the most common flowers sold in flower shops around the world are grown in equatorial countries. Unfortunately, many of these countries have loose to no regulations on the synthetic pesticides and fertilizers used to grow the flowers. These pesticides and fertilizers find their way into waterways, and rivers and eventually make their way into our oceans, causing environmental havoc along the way. Fertilizer runoff can trigger sudden explosions of marine algae capable of disrupting ocean ecosystems and even producing "dead zones" in the sea. Pesticides can affect coral reproduction, growth, and other physiological processes. Herbicides, in particular, can affect the symbiotic algae (plants). This can damage their partnership with coral and result in bleaching. This image contemplates the connection between the flowers we buy, and the effect commercial flowers have on the majestic and fragile reef systems around the world. In keeping with one of PangeaSeed Foundation’s mottos, “As Above, So Below”, this image imagines Clownfish, an iconic reef dweller living within the flowers we consume. Their home is being threatened and altered by pesticide runoff, pictured here as a band of bleached out flowers. You can make a difference by the choices you make on a daily basis. This Valentine’s Day, consider buying local organically grown flowers. Consider picking your own wildflowers. Consider giving flower paintings and drawings…. ( i Might know a guy). Consider doing this every time you think about gifting flowers or decorating your home. The consumption choices we make have direct effects on our planet. Next time you buy flowers, think about our Mother Nature." - Jet Martinez

"The New Created World" Abstract Print 43" × 40" in Ed. 1/10 by Kate Garner
By Kate Garner
Located in Culver City, CA
"The New Created World" Abstract Print 43" × 40" in Ed. 1/10 by Kate Garner Signed and numbered by the artist. Not framed. Ships in a tube. Kate Garner is an English photographer, fine artist, and singer. Garner has photographed a wide range of musicians and celebrities, including Dr. Dre, Leigh Bowery, JT LeRoy, Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, David Bowie, Cameron Diaz, PJ Harvey, John Galliano, Björk, and Kate Moss. Her work has appeared in the American and British versions of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar as well as W magazine, Interview, GQ, Vanity Fair, Elle, and The Sunday Times. Kate Garner was expelled from high school at the age of 16 and became a runaway who joined The Children Of God. To escape the grasp of the cult she hitchhiked from London through Eastern Europe to India in 1970, where she lived for a year as a traveler before being located by her parents. She attended art school at Blackpool in the North of England and later moved to London, where she began to both photograph and model for up-and-coming magazines such as The Face and i-D. Kate Garner first came widely into the public eye as one-third of the 1980s avant-garde, new wave pop project Haysi Fantayzee, along with other members Jeremy Healy and Paul Caplin. Emanating from street art scenes such as the Blitz Kids that were cropping up in London in the early 1980s, Haysi’s music combined reggae, country, and electro with political and sociological lyrics couched as nursery rhymes. Catapulted to stardom by their visual sensibilities, Haysi Fantayzee combined their extreme clothes sense – described as combining white Rasta, tribal chieftain, and Dickensian styles – with a quirky musical sound comparable to other new wave musical pop acts of the era, such as Bow Wow Wow...

Mod Rooster Drawing 1970s Pop Art Lithograph Hand Signed
By Bob Stanley
Located in Surfside, FL
This listing is for just the one print in the photo here. there are three states of the same image image each with Progressively increasing detail and color. the edition size is 175. Hand signed, numbered and dated. on hand made French Arches paper. Bob (Robert) Stanley (1932-1997) was a painter, photographer and printmaker whose early work was figurative painting about contemporary American life. In the 1960s and early 1970s, he based his paintings on photographs, which he manipulated from black and white or silkscreen colored shapes. In the early 1960's, he began to base his paintings on images clipped from newspapers and magazines, following the example of Pop artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, who would become his brother-in-law. Enlarged and often simplified to two vibrant saturated colors Stanley's images could be reduced to the abstract or be powerfully explicit. His preferred subjects, including rock stars, athletes and pornography, always seemed to grate against the pretenses of high art. Similar in bold use of color to Malcolm Morley. In the late 1960's Mr. Stanley started using his own photographs, basing paintings on images of tree branches or the ground, and also using pictures of life-drawing models at the School of Visual Arts.
