Pair of Chinese Export Porcelain American* Market Landscape Vases & Covers
Located in West Palm Beach, FL
Pair of Chinese Export Porcelain American* Market Landscape Vases & Covers China, Circa 1800 * American/ European Market, considered to the Chinese to be the same market, by many. it's been suggested the front and back vignettes of houses in landscape on this model, were painted from a European print the Chinese porcelain workshops acquired. A extraordinary find, a pair of Chinese Export Porcelain American/ European Market painted in sepia, colors and gilt vases & covers, with twelve (12) placed American/ European and Chinese motif vignettes. Each vase complete with its original cover/ lid with gilt recumbent foo-dog, with two front and back oval vignettes of a Chinese tree in landscape. Each of the baluster vases, exquisitely hand-painted front and back with a similar American/ European topographical view of country houses with trees landscape. (The Chinese porcelain workshops probably copied these scenes from a European print) Surrounded by an elaborate painted and enameled trellis with vines and leaves. Some traces worn, additional gilt decoration is evident. Both sides of the vases are decorated with an upper elongated cartouche painted...

Rude Osolnik Signed Mid-Century Modern Spalted Wood Turned Vessel Bud Weed Vase
By Rude Osolnik
Located in Studio City, CA
A beautifully executed, handmade, wood-turned weed vase by master woodturner Rude Osolnik who is widely regarded, along with Bob Stocksdale, as one of the finest woodturners in American woodturning history. In 1992, he was presented by then-Kentucky Governor Brereton Jones, with the Milner Award, the Governor's Award for Lifetime Achievement. The vase is made from spalted wood (hard to make out the exact wood on the base) and features highlighted wood grain and shades of dark and light areas. It is signed "Osolnik Originals" and "Spalted ...." by the Osolnik on the base. A gorgeous and engaging gem of a piece that clearly makes an impact. Would be a great addition to any Midcentury Modern or wood-turned collection or make for an eye-catching stand-alone work in about any setting, midcentury or otherwise. Osolnik's work can be found in such permanent collections as: The Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian The Boston Museum of Fine Arts Atlanta's High Museum The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago The Yale Museum The Speed Museum The Kentucky History Museum The Mayo Clinic...

Meiji Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Butterfly Vase Attributed to Hayashi Kodenji
Located in Long Island City, NY
An antique Japanese, Meiji era, Silver wire enamel vase attributed to Hayashi Kodenji, Japanese, 1831 to 1915. Circa 1900s. The baluster form vase is enameled with polychrome images of butterflies made in the Cloisonne technique on a black ground. The base and the neck of the ware are adorned with a geometrical motif on a green ground made in the same technique. Unmarked. Hayashi Kodenji was a pivotal figure in the history of Cloisonne enamel manufacturer. He was instrumental in the formation and leadership of the Shippo cho enamellers guild, and it is probable that he worked for the Nagoya-based Shippo Kaisha. As a young woman of high society in the late Victorian era, she gained early accolades as a skilled watercolorist and china painter and taught for a time at St. Mary’s Hall in Minnesota. In 1899, she married Samuel E. Robineau, a French gentleman and collector of Chinese ceramics. He was deeply intrigued by her talent and steadfastly supported and encouraged her throughout her career. The couple collaborated to produce a popular and influential monthly journal together, Keramic Studio, and went on to build a studio on their property in Syracuse, New York, which they named Four Winds. Robineau would also go on to teach for many years at Syracuse University while creating her own work and raising three children. Early in her career, she studied at Alfred University under Charles Binns, who is widely considered to be the progenitor of contemporary studio ceramics in America. His program established a shift in the craft of ceramics as an academic pursuit, rather than one of apprenticeship. Pottery throwers and the artists who decorated the wares traditionally inhabited separate roles in ceramic manufacture, a practice common in Europe. Binns’ philosophy merged the two, such that the potter had total agency of the final product. This marked a historic divergence in the creation of art pottery – one that Adelaide Robineau...
