Vintage Native American Indian Navajo Rug in Chevron Pattern in Earth Tones
Located in Barrington, IL
This vintage Navajo rug, woven in the third quarter of the 20th century, features a striking banded chevron and stripe pattern rendered in a natural earth-tone palette of gray, ivory, black, and caramel. The rhythmic geometry and tonal balance reflect the deep artistry and cultural expression central to traditional Navajo weaving.
Handwoven using the time-honored flat-weave technique, the rug is constructed with a wool body on a cotton foundation—a signature of authentic Native American craftsmanship. The colors are likely achieved through the use of natural, plant- and mineral-based dyes, carefully sourced from the local terrain surrounding Navajo lands.
The geometric motifs featured throughout the design often carry spiritual and symbolic meanings, passed down through generations of Navajo weavers. While originally intended for functional use, this textile is equally well-suited as wall-mounted art, where its bold pattern and subtle palette can add depth and cultural resonance to any interior.
A refined and collectible example of mid-century Navajo textile art, this piece offers versatility, heritage, and visual impact.

Vintage American Hand Hooked Rug in Block Pattern
Located in Barrington, IL
Vintage American hand hooked area rug in a block pattern circa the early 20th century. The very unique and beautiful design in this vintage folk art hooked rug consists of a 5 x 7 block pattern each containing a different design. The design in this hand hooked rug is unique since the blocks around the perimeter of the rug are in a geometric pattern and the blocks in the center of the rug are in floral pattern. The design is set on a tan color background. The colors in each block are vibrant and make them stand out. Beautiful piece of Americana folk art to be used as a table top display or a wall art.
The hooked rugs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are made with recycled old material, often used clothing that had been cut into narrow stripes. The foundation of hooked rugs is generally burlap material which the maker uses the stenciling technique to transfer the pattern into the surface. Once the design has been transferred to burlap, it would then be filled with the recycled material stripes and more recently yarn using the hooking technique. The use of special design and the brilliant colors makes this truly an artistic piece wonderful to be used as a wall art or displayed on a table. Antique Hooked Rugs are a combination of Folk Art Creativity and Simplicity.
Dimensions: 29” x 42”
