Handmade Kilim Rugs, Antique Wool Jajim, Striped Red Cream Wool Textile
Located in Wembley, GB
A practical variation on the flat-weave Kilim, this Caucasian coverlet, or jajim, features a bold, inherently versatile pattern of multi-width stripes perfectly suited for Mid-Century Modern interiors. Ochre and umber stripes with narrow outlines decorate the fiery cinnabar ground while creating a stylish and sophisticated pattern yet totally understated. These graphic stripes, which would be equally at home in a western design repertoire, still manage to retain their rustic sensibilities. Hidden variations give the seemingly balanced stripes an inconspicuous asymmetric repeat. Pinstripe accents in neutral hues of white and walnut brown emphasise the boldly banded stripes and offset the high-chroma ground. Like many of the most sought-after tribal textiles, this Caucasian Jajim has natural modernity and a Minimalist aesthetic imbued with ethnographic qualities that enliven modern interiors. This piece is in great condition, ready for use in any home interior.

Distinctive Majestic Persian Lion with Sword Rug in Gold, Red, and Blue
Located in New York, NY
Measuring 3’4” x 4’11”, this red, gold, blue, orange, and cream Persian Yalameh carpet is traditionally hand knotted and belongs to Orley Shabahang’s World Market Collection. Crafted in Iran, traditional Persian weaving techniques were utilized to create the pile and foundation. This weave creates a soft pile and durable foundation without toxic adhesives or latex and provides this piece with the strength and durability to possess exceptional functionality. To obtain the rich red, gold, blue, orange, and green tones, the weavers used organic vegetable dyes. These dyes are preferred for carpet weaving today for their bright and fade-resistant hues. The carpet’s neutral cream tone comes from the undyed, natural shades of the Persian fat-tailed sheep’s wool.
This carpet features a distinctive lion wielding a sword with the sun peaking over his mane. The motif stretches from end to end and contrasts beautifully with the field’s rich red background. In Iran, the iconic symbol of the lion, sword, and sun represent a spiritual leader and teacher, and their gaze is intended to break down the viewer’s barricades. In turn, this allows the viewer to look outward at the carpet, but inward upon themselves. This carpet is a superb example of traditional Persian lion...
