Cafe Gratitude Dowtown Los Angeles

Café Gratitude is located in a corner unit space within Michael Maltzan’s airy One Santa Fe complex. Our main goal in designing the Café Gratitude restaurants is that the spaces feel clean, bright and welcoming. Ideally, the dining experience should support the food, which is organic vegan grown mostly on the Be Love farm in Vacaville. To achieve this, the materials tend towards simple and organic with saturated muted colors. We tried to infuse a mix of textures in the space to contrast to the stark exterior. The paneling on the take out bar is reclaimed oak and the tiles behind are handmade by Fireclay. We worked with several local artisans to contribute to the space: Heather Levine’s handmade ceramic pendants above the bar; The encaustic cement bathroom and patio tiles by Kismet; The sconces by Atelier de Troupe.
