Family Residence
The process of reimagining this large historic San Francisco home required a top-to-bottom renovation to serve the clients’ present and long-term needs: an expanding family, entertaining friends, hosting philanthropic events, and creating space for their ever-growing art collection. With a stellar team, we excavated and rebuilt the property to its last square inch, establishing enfilades of rooms to capitalize on the breathtaking vistas while creating a central spiral stair surmounted by an oculus to bring natural light down through its core. The clients’ significant holdings of art and antiques were inspirational, as well as pivotal to every aspect of our decision-making design process. Ultimately, we assembled an outstanding array of antiques and one-of-a-kind commissioned pieces from contemporary artisans, along with further art acquisitions. Many furnishings and architectural elements were custom-designed for the interior’s scale, flow, and function.
