Litchfield Country Cottage in Connecticut
Country House by Annie Kelly Art + Design in Litchfield, CT
A charming Colonial 18th-century farmhouse in Connecticut shown here was furnished with a mixture of English and American furniture. Happily the interior was quite intact- as no one had ruined the layout by opening it up to "modernize' it. Upstairs had been renovated in the 1920s, so to make newer rooms look old I wallpapered the walls.
A Colonial house is usually built with organic materials, with thick plaster walls, wide plank floors and stone hearths. They have a wonderful character, and can take on many different styles of furnishings. Here, the age and atmosphere of the house were the most important design considerations.
