Mill Valley Midcentury

With Mill Valley’s redwood trees and greenery prominent in the backdrop, the studio created a playful and bold design for the interiors that were inspired by modernist masters such as Corbusier and Judd, using color to define spaces and pairing them with humble materials. Wood-cladded walls and quirky unexpected details were inspired by some of the homes in Sea Ranch, a historic modernist community a couple of hours north, known for its cedar-lined homes and artistic character. There is a mix of high and low design elements, pieces crafted by local artists in the Bay Area and in LA and an eclectic mix of furnishings to give the home a collected feel and to illustrate one of the studio’s principles: “balance of opposites.”
