For over a thousand years, this lineage of skilled artisans has crafted exquisite silverware that transcends mere utility, evolving into a symbol of luxury, artistry, and French cultural heritage. The story of the Lapparra family's silversmithing prowess begins in the early 10th century. By the 12th century, the Lapparra name had become synonymous with craftsmanship, and their workshops produced intricate chalices, candlesticks, and reliquaries for churches across France. The Lapparra silversmiths adapted to the imperial tastes, crafting magnificent pieces that showcased the grandeur of the First French Empire, like this amazing 327-piece flatware set. In addition, elaborate tea and coffee sets, dinnerware, and ornate presentation pieces were created for the imperial court, earning the family the coveted title of "Imperial Silversmiths." The Lapparra family's creations graced the tables of Napoleon's lavish banquets and adorned the Palais des Tuileries. Their innovative techniques, set new standards in silversmithing. Even after Napoleon's fall, the Lapparra legacy endured, as they continued to cater to the elite of Europe, from Russian tsars to British nobility. The Lapparra family's enduring legacy extends far beyond their magnificent silverware. Their contributions to the world of silversmithing have left an indelible mark on French culture and the global art community. Their ability to evolve with the times while preserving their commitment to quality and craftsmanship has made them a symbol of artistic excellence. The Lapparra name is not only associated with opulence and luxury but also with innovation and artistic expression. Their influence can be seen in the work of countless contemporary silversmiths who draw inspiration from their rich history. The Lapparra family's legacy continues into the 21st century, as the family's artisans continue to produce exquisite silverware, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern sensibilities. Savary - 277pc. Antique French Sterling Silver Flatware Set, 26 Serving Pieces.
By Savary Paris 1
Located in Wilmington, DE
Direct from a Private Chateau Outside of Paris, A Stunning 277pc. 950 Sterling Silver Flatware Set by International Known French Silversmiths "Savary" with Original 6-Drawer Storage Cabinet and an Awesome Assortment of 26 Serving Pieces, Excellent Condition - circa 1890s. The world of silver-smithing has a rich history, and numerous firms have left their indelible mark on the craft. Among these, the French silversmith firm "Savary" stands as a paragon of excellence. The Savary silversmith firm was founded in Paris in 1780 by Louis-François Savary, an artisan with a profound passion for silver craftsmanship. In a time when the art of silversmithing was thriving in France, Savary's innate talent and dedication set the stage for what would become a legacy of excellence. As the 18th century transitioned into the 19th century, the Savary firm began to focus on producing high-quality silverware. This transition marked a pivotal moment in the firm's history, as it aligned with the changing tastes and demands of French aristocracy and an emerging bourgeois class. Savary's enduring success can be attributed to several key accomplishments, which have solidified its status as a distinguished silversmith firm - exceptional craftsmanship, innovation in design, royal patronage and collaboration with renowned artists. From its inception, Savary exhibited exceptional craftsmanship that was the envy of its contemporaries. The firm's artisans were known for their skillful use of traditional silversmith techniques, producing pieces with intricate designs and exceptional quality. Savary's pieces were not just functional; they were works of art, representing the epitome of French silversmithing. One of Savary's crowning achievements was gaining the favor of French royalty. Louis-François Savary's exceptional craftsmanship and reputation as a master silversmith earned him the patronage of King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette. The royal family commissioned several exquisite silverware pieces, showcasing Savary's extraordinary talent and solidifying the firm's position as a preeminent silversmith. In addition to royal patronage, Savary collaborated with some of the era's most celebrated artists. The firm partnered with Jean-Baptiste-Claude Odiot, a prominent French silversmith, to create a series of exceptional silver pieces that combined Odiot's design prowess with Savary's craftsmanship. The Savary firm's commitment to excellence did not go unnoticed. It received several awards and honors that underscored its importance in the world of silversmithing. The Exposition Universelle, held in Paris in 1855, was a global showcase of art and industry. Savary's work, including their innovative silverware designs, earned them a prestigious Gold Medal. This recognition solidified the firm's international reputation as a leading silversmith. Savary's silverware, characterized by exceptional craftsmanship and innovative design, left an indelible mark on the world of silversmithing. The firm's legacy endures in the form of treasured silverware pieces that continue to captivate connoisseurs and collectors alike. The story of Savary is not just a tale of a silversmith firm but a testament to the enduring artistry and excellence of French craftsmanship in the realm of silver. This magnificent set is an exemplary testament to the quality and luxury enjoyed by 19th century European elite. This set is in extremely good condition. Dieudonné Kinable Enamel Dial Attributed to Dubuisson (1731-1815) Exceptional Porcelain Lyre Mantel Clock from the Royal Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory Paris, late Louis XVI period, circa 1785-1790 Height 62 cm; width 26 cm; depth 16 cm The round enamel dial, signed “Kinable”, indicates the hours in Roman numerals, the fifteen-minute intervals in Arabic numerals, the annual calendar and the signs of the Zodiac, by means of four hands, two of which are made of pierced gilt bronze, the two others in blued steel. The magnificent lyre-shaped case is made of “bleu nouveau” Sèvres porcelain and finely chased and gilt bronze. The bezel is made up of a gilt bronze twisted rope; the pendulum is adorned with brilliant-cut paste stones; the body of the lyre is adorned with gilt bronze beading and with laurel leaf and seed motifs, with two rosettes issuing floral and foliate swags. The clock is surmounted by a mask with radiating sunrays. The spreading foot is decorated with beading and twisted rope motifs and a leafy garland. The en-suite decorated oval base is raised upon four flattened ball feet. The Royal Sèvres Porcelain Factory produced the lyre clock model as of 1785. Four colours were offered: turquoise, green, pink and bleu nouveau. These exceptional clocks were made for the connoisseurs of the time. Louis XVI had a similar clock in his Salon des jeux in Versailles; its dial bore the signature of the clockmaker Courieult (this is almost certainly the example illustrated in P. Verlet, Les bronzes dorés français du XVIIIe siècle, Paris, 1999, p. 41). Kinable, however, was the clockmaker who purchased the greatest number of lyre cases from the factory, and he developed the model in the late 18th century. Among the porcelain lyre clocks signed by this brilliant horologer, one example is in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (illustrated in H. Ottomeyer and P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, Band I, Munich, 1986, p. 252, fig. 4.6.26). A second such clock is in the Royal British Collection (see C. Jagger, Royal Clocks, The British Monarchy & its Timekeepers 1300-1900, 1983, p. 130, fig. 176). Bibliography: M. Gay and A. Lemaire, “Les pendules lyre”, in Bulletin de l’Association nationale des Collectionneurs et Amateurs d’Horlogerie ancienne, Winter 1993, n° 68, p. 5-40. Dieudonné Kinable (active circa 1785-1810) One of the most important Parisian clockmakers of the late 18th century. His shop was located at n° 131 Palais Royal. He purchased a great number of lyre-type porcelain clock cases...
