About the Item

The Blue Street - Monochrome Rural Town Landscape in Colored Pencil on Paper Delicate drawing of a rural street by Alle Wijtze "Charles" de Somer (Dutch, 1869-1919). One of the artists final creations. Executed with only blue colored pencil, this monochrome drawing shows a few houses along a rural street. There is one lone lamppost on the right side of the drawing. Signed "A. W. Somer" in the lower right corner. Written on verso: "Charles' last picture 1914 Los Angeles" Presented in a silver colored wood frame with an off-white mat. Frame size: 14.75"H x 11.75"W Alle Wijtze "Charles" de Somer (Dutch, 1869-1919) was born in Rolde, Netherlands. He emigrated to the United States in 1893 and lived in Bakersfield, CA,, becoming a US citizen in 1896. While in the United States, he went by the name Charles. He passed away in 1919 in Assen, Netherlands from tuberculosis.

Some tonal ageing to paper, but overall very good condition for it's age. Frame is vintage and has some minor scratches and loss of silver paint. Imperfections have been minimized, but frame is included "as-is.".
