About the Item

Maritime watercolor, an accurately detailed depiction of steamship "Nellie" en route on the water, complete with tiny silhouetted passenger figures on board, by Lee Wiseman (American, 1922-2012). Signed "Lee Wiseman" lower right. Displayed in a new acid-free grey/blue mat, with no frame. Image size: 7.5"H x 11.5"W. Mat size: 12"H x 16"W. Wiseman was born January 17, 1922 to Henry C. and Ollie Mae (White) Harmon. She graduated from San Bernardino (Calif.) High School. In 1957, Lee married Perry Wiseman in Tulsa, and together they raised three sons. Lee was a life-long artist, her mediums mostly being watercolors and oil paintings. Lee was involved in several artist’s co-ops and painting groups throughout her life and presided over several of them. She was one of the first members of the Santa Clara Watercolor Society, which was formed in the mid-1960’s. In the early 1970’s she headed and exhibited with The Allied Artists Guild of Los Gatos, California, a professional artist group that had shows at Villa Montalvo, Triton Museum, de Saisset Gallery at the University of Santa Clara and more. Later in life Wiseman was part of a two-artist exhibit called “The Birds of Mendocino”, which was on display at the Ford House Museum and Visitor Center in Mendocino in 1995. She was best known for her seascapes, harbor scenes, clipper ships and flowers.
