About the Item

Twilight on the Balcony, Original Watercolor This minimalist architectural painting, by Rachel Mason Burger (English-American, 20th Century) creates wonderful line in 1-point perspective with rolling hills in the background. The cool tones give a quiet calming feel with soft warmth in the reflection of the window panes and the distant hill top in the fading light. Rachel Mason Burger was born in England, in the Cotswolds, and grew up in Shropshire, Paraguay, and Germany. She immigrated to the United States in 1969, and resides in Maine. Mason Burger is known as a political artist. Between 1973 and 1980, she contributed extensively to Community Press Features, which was a nationally distributed graphic service to low income, self-help community groups. During this time, she did pen and ink and scraperboard drawings of the less-seen people - children, women, people of color. When Reagan cut funding, she began doing full-time shelter work but continued to draw. Since 1992, Mason Burger has been a full-time painter, mostly watercolors and pastels. She delights in seeing beauty in the everyday and often creates house portraits in my neighborhood. She teaches small classes in watercolor, pastels, and drawing. Signed in the bottom right hand corner, “Rachel Mason Burger.” Frame included as is. Image size: 15.5"H x 11.5"W Framed size: 17.5"H x 13.5"W x 0.75"D
