About the Item

Marco Silombria (1936-2017) - Juventus, 1995-96, UEFA Champions League Victory Charcoal on paper, signed and dated 1996 Dimensions: 101 x 72 cm Marco Silombria captures the triumph of Juventus in the 1995-96 UEFA Champions League with this striking portrayal of a footballer in action. The artist highlights athleticism, muscle tension, and movement, evoking the strength and harmony of classical Greek sculpture. The bold lines and masterful use of chiaroscuro give the drawing an almost monumental presence. Part of a series dedicated to Juventus players, signed and dated in the lower right. Marco Silombria was an Italian painter, sculptor, and graphic designer active in Turin from the late 1960s. He collaborated with artists such as Emilio Scanavino and Lucio Fontana and worked for major Italian companies like Fiat and Facis. His work, influenced by classical mythology and Pop Art, celebrated the male form with a powerful and iconic aesthetic. Provenance: direct from the artist’s heirs.

The Football Players
By Bernard Aptekar
Located in New York, NY
As art historian and writer Suzanne Ramljak wrote "the ambivalent relationship between humanity and machinery has informed Aptekar's art from the start and remains a central theme in his work. Like many of the issues Aptekar addresses, technology is not without contradiction." The shocking imagery of juxtaposed human and natural forms with mechanical elements, using clear contours and colors, is certainly not oblivious of Fernand Leger latest work and what he called "the law of contrast". At the same time, the political and social commentary that are a constant inherent component of Aptekar's work has it's roots in the work of Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, who Apterkar met at age of 11. The outcome is an imagery of an extraordinary visual impact and absolutely unique to Aptekar's own creative process. This work "The Football Players...
