About the Item

3 volumes. Engraved title vignettes, 78 engraved plates and maps by Giuseppe Pazzi (including engraved frontispiece, 20 folding maps, 19 maps, 35 plates, 3 folding views). Half-title with marginal repair, Ll1 with small repaired hole affecting text, first folding map with repair to verso, some light staining, mostly marginal. 20th-century half morocco. First italian edition, as translation of "The American Gazetteer", published in London in 3 12° volumes by J. Millar in 1762. This edition of much wider and richer than the previous one in terms of both texts and illustrations. Interestingly, the “Gazzettiere” focuses on the current state of affairs (commerce, arts, and European political influences) covering all areas of the New World and, of course, particularly New England and Boston. A 5-page entry on Brazil appears in the first volume, featuring engraving of a toucan and a monkey. Very good conditions.
