Alain Jean-Baptiste is a Haitian-American artist whose work explores memory, identity, and the narratives of his homeland. Born in Boston and raised in Haiti, he lived there until the devastating 2010 earthquake uprooted his family, leaving an enduring impact on his life and art. Painting became his refuge—a way to process the chaos and loss that followed. While always drawn to art, Alain began pursuing painting seriously in 2017. Primarily working in oil on canvas, he continually experiments with new mediums and techniques. His paintings challenge the distorted narratives often associated with Haiti, offering an intimate and authentic reflection of its culture, values, and people. Through his work, Alain seeks to reclaim and share Haiti’s stories on his own terms.

"Inspired by the changing visual landscape of my hometown of Chicago, I created these works to explore how the gentrification of the south-side disrupts intimate, private memories associated with public spaces in the name of urban "renewal," even creating commodifiable opportunities to make community memories public and profitable, yet not sacred. I was attending a suburban private liberal arts college; many classmates often seemed obsessed with fantastical, cheap narratives about my community and the folks in it that deeply contrasted the memories of love and care I had grown up with. These works remember and reclaim these spaces while showing off my favorite public treasures, sights, and delicacies.
There are also odes to the sweet parts of my adolescence that I hope urban development will not shift: running around the city with my father, who has worked for the Chicago Park District for over 25 years, my mom getting me a 6 piece from Harold's Chicken whenever I got a good report card, or stopping by Zberry, the city's first black-woman owned froyo shop to get a treat after school. I moved to Philadelphia that same year with just two suitcases, my art supplies storage...

About Artist
Roseleen Labazacchy is a true Nigerian born in the year 2000 and based in Ibadan, Oyo state Nigeria. Roseleen holds a National Certificate of Education in Fine Art from Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo State.
She is a mixed-media painter. Roseleen was exposed to art from a very young age; Her father being an artist himself enrolled her in the popular Nike Art Gallery at a very young age to learn traditional Adire making, a skill she still practices to date.
This was how she started art professionally and she has been getting better at what she does since then. In the just-concluded international art exhibition and competition organized by Talentia Foundation, Roseleen Labazacchy who participated in the competition amidst other international artists came first in the Mix Media category and was presented with a certificate of achievement in recognition of her artistic endeavour.
