Alexa Roscoe
Devon Hills No2, original painting, landscape, contemporary

2024

About the Item

This landscape painting by Alexa Roscoe is inspired by a favourite walk she shares with her brother in Devon, where the beauty of the countryside never fails to captivate. The scene depicts a vast patchwork of fields, their vibrant green hues and golden tones separated by bold, defined hedges. In the background, the rolling hills of Devon rise gently, adding a sense of depth and tranquillity to the composition. Alexa has used a rich palette of coral colours, golds, and greens to evoke the warmth and serenity of the landscape. The strong, deliberate lines of the hedges create a sense of structure, contrasting beautifully with the soft, flowing curves of the hills. Through this painting, Alexa captures not only the physical beauty of Devon but also the emotional connection to this special place, where nature and memories intertwine.k Additional information: Oil Paint on Canvas 100 H x 100 W x 4 D cm (39.37 x 39.37 x 1.57 in) Sold unframed Image size: Height: 100cm (39.37 in) Width: 100cm (39.37 in) Complete size of unframed painting Height: 100cm (39.37 in) Width: 100cm (39.37 in) Depth: 4cm (1.57 in) Artist biography: Alexa Roscoe, artist and painter, has contemporary landscape paintings available at Wychwood Art. Alexa Roscoe ,studied at Falmouth College of Arts 2000-2003, where she specialised in printed textile design and met her husband. After graduating Alexa moved to London where she worked as a freelance designer for a printed textile company. Alexa Roscoe now lives in Oxfordshire with her husband and two children. They live amongst fields and trees which is a constant inspiration for the Alexa. Alexa Roscoe says of her works: I am drawn to painting the landscapes around me, enjoying the colours in nature and how the colours change through the seasons. I love seeing new ideas for paintings as I drive through the countryside, and different compositions on my walks. I love to watch how the landscape changes through the seasons. Each season bringing its own beauty and colours. In my most recent work I have been enjoying the silhouettes of the leafless trees standing against the different tones of greys and greens. Even winter is inspirational! I have a passion for colour and love to notice the way they compliment each other and how they sit together in nature. When I am absorbed in a painting working intensely with colour I start to notice all the colours all around me in a different way. How the roads can have a purple look to them and how the hedges have so many colours in them. I even enjoy those great winter days. Noticing the beautiful tones of greys and how they sit next to the golden autumnal colours and green fields. I love using oil paints, how they are so versatile. Sometimes I like to layer the paint creating a striking flat finish. In contrast to this I also like to create works with energetic bold brushstrokes. Sometimes combining both of these techniques. The rich colours and bold brush strokes create depth and interest to my paintings. I have always enjoyed and have been inspired by colourists such as Henri Matisse, Hockney and Bonnard. The way they see and express colour.

"Daniels Lane" contemporary oil on resin painting colorful modern farm landscape
By Darius Yektai
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
An oil painting of a landscape in Sagaponack NY. Lines radiate across the canvas towards the bottom and right side of the canvas in shades of yellow, brown and orange, indicating rows of plants or tilled soil in a field. The field is surrounded by lush thick brush-stokes in shades of green flecked there and there with bright orange. The top fourth of the painting shows the sky, full of points of paint, most under the resin. The white dots above the resin cast shadows below, adding dimension to the piece. The two radiating lines that surround the lower righthand corner are also painted above the resin, one white and one a swirl of primary colors loosely mixed together. The raw white gessoed linen canvas is clearly visible between the precisely placed brush-strokes, all sealed under resin...
