About the Item

Alexandra Rozenman’s painting “Playing with Light” is 12 x 48 x 2 inch oil on canvas. It gives us a feeling that something magical is about to happen. This whimsical painting depicts two anthropomorphic animal figures – one light and one dark – engaged in a playful game of tennis on a surreal court set against stunning, otherworldly sunset. The backdrop is a richly colored sunset with warm orange, red and purple hues. Dreamy and quiet it evokes the sense of peaceful absurdity. Rozenman's creative work seeks to explore and articulate the intricate relationships between identity, culture, and memory, particularly as they relate to the experiences of migration and displacement. Through her innovative use of diverse materials and techniques, she captures the nuanced experiences of individuals navigating their cultural identities in an ever-changing world. Alexandra Rozenman immigrated to America from the Soviet Union in 1989. Russian, European and American myths of national destiny and private identity take on a utopian dimension as she absorbs and expresses the psychology of otherness as fundamental aspects of her own identity. She wants her art to be like a well-worn military wool blanket that gives you warmth, love, and history. The artist states. Whatever degree of abstraction defines my thinking and visual self-identification it has all to do with the search for my own image in a great existential sea of sweeping change. Rozenman is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston, MA.

By Lindy Chambers
Located in Dallas, TX
This painting is from Lindy Chambers' 2023 series "Animal Love." Born in Tennessee, Lindy Chambers, an identical twin, spent her youth drawing and riding horses with her twin sister LeeLee Brazeal before moving to Texas in 1972. Lindy has loved animals forever, and her favorite paintings and drawings are of animals. However, she has avoided painting horses until now because she knows horses so well. Lindy's new series includes all variety of animals, including horses. Lindy Chambers says: "When I start to paint, the color is intuitive, and the process is spontaneous. I try to listen to the canvas and react to it. I follow the river of the subconscious - it is all about exploration and revelations along the way. My attention is drawn to the relationship of forms - and to unrecognizable shapes that are thought provoking and unworldly." Lindy Chambers has had solo exhibitions at the Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence, Kansas; Women & Their Work, Austin, Texas; Fort Worth Community Arts Center, Fort Worth, Texas; and Pelham Art...
