Sand Monster, Painting, Acrylic on Canvas

About the Item

I love the beach. The endless horizon of no plans and timeless reality. All there is, dragons, moats, sand castles and the sea. This is part of a series of paintings of motherhood. I start by having a painting lesson on our kitchen table. It started because we are together all the time and I could only embrace their hands on my painting. But then it became a process. They paint first, then paint on top; like mothers do. I oversee the grand play of fun with snack time, bed time, dinner and school. I give grammar to their sentences and impose composition on their vivid and colorful world. I see even more clearly with each painting I do; into their world. Into their play. They create whole worlds. They play in language, mentioning realities of their characters to each other, “and then Bong Bong has super powers, jet pack and flies to the tree…” and then the next will sprout wings and blast off to the next adventure. The mechanics of their play facilitates me. I am privileged to see it. I remember one day, like the flick of a switch, the magic of make-believe left me. I was no longer in the Caribbean Sea on a raft, rather a rowing machine in my mothers house. Their maturity switch has not been turned and I am here, just for a moment, to bare witness to their childhood. :: Painting :: Fine Art :: This piece comes with an official certificate of authenticity signed by the artist :: Ready to Hang: No :: Signed: Yes :: Signature Location: front :: Canvas :: Landscape :: Original :: Framed: No

"Abandoned by My Family in Chicago" Outsider Art in Acrylic on Canvas
Located in Soquel, CA
Surreal depiction of a figure walking though a city by Marshall Woodall (American, b. 1958). The cityscape is represented in outlines only, creating the impression of being lit up in neon lights at night. The figure walking through the scene is an outline, reminiscent of a walk sign. Throughout the piece, there are hidden faces in the buildings. Signed, dated, and titled on verso along the stretcher: Marshall Woodall Aug 12/2019 'Abandoned by my family in Chicago' Unframed, but the edges are painted for a frame-less display. Canvas size: 16"H x 20"W Marshall Woodall (b. 1958) was born in Oklahoma City, OK. Woodall’s fascination with art began at an early age. His life has been a journey into self-expression and storytelling through music, drawing, and painting. ‘‘I am off the wall and have an unusual imagination. I think about things that people don’t always think about or notice.’’ Self-taught but inspired by Gary Larson...

"The Return" Portrait of Ayatollah Khomeini 1979
By Dick Crispo
Located in Soquel, CA
Evocative pop art/fauvist treatment of the return of Ayatollah Khomeini to Iran by Monterey, California aritst Dick Crispo (American, b.1945). Presented in a mat. Signed and dated "D. Crispo 79" upper left corner. Image size, 29"H x 23"W. “I am an abstract journalist of the landscape and a choreographer of the dance of the mind, eye and hand. The plastic, the decorative, the horrible and the serene that pepper the visual landscape of the present time challenges the artists who address the age of information. I consider myself a global artist, not an American artist. This galactical view is the true basis of my work–Nature is my teacher–the Master. I’m the apprentice.” –Dick Crispo Dick Crispo, born in New York City on January 13, 1945, has resided on the Monterey Peninsula since 1955. An award winning artist, Crispo has studied at the Carmel Art Institute under John Cunningham and Sam Colburn...
