2023
About the Item
Nature is a central theme in Alejandra's work, and with this surreal landscape, we can notice her profound curiosity about the cycles that occur in the natural world that turn out to be transformative and ever-changing.
In addition to integrating elements of the natural world, the artist makes extensive reference to the realm of dreams, which she constantly records in her journal. So the work results in a surreal landscape inhabited by these magical beings that could exist in other realities. Due to the artist's experience with ink, she decided to use a special ink brush to be able to achieve the soft and organic strokes that draw the silhouette of these leaf-birds beings, the artist uses an ink brush with oil painting.
This piece is part of an exposition (currently on exhibit in Mexico City called "Jardín Particular" which stands for Particular Garden or Private Garden. Alejandra´s work invites the spectator to dive into her own particular garden, which she cultivates in her heart. She evokes transformation, change, movement, and nature.

Gonzalo García’s work explores the influence of Western culture and European painting on Mexican art, focusing on 17th- and 18th-century still lifes, Flemish Baroque bodegones, and more recently, 15th-century medieval painting. He reimagines symbolic elements, textiles, and furniture from these styles within his own queer perspective, creating pastel-toned works that contrast historical aesthetics with his personal experiences as a contemporary queer artist.
In recent years, García has developed a project examining the dialogue between 1970s Mexican cinema and contemporary painting. Drawing on films as cultural records, he uses them to reflect on memory and the societal concerns of their time. His series Cachorros intertwines two sources: Alfredo González...
