About the Item
"Wild Horses", 36x36 is an oil painting on canvas by the artist Brooke Major. Depicted in white is two wild horses mid run. The artist uses layers and layers of white oil paint to meticulously carve into and create a three dimensional representation of horses. Expressive brush strokes and varying thickness of paint creates a dramatic feeling. While the primary use of white adds a classic and calming effect.
About the Artist:
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Brooke Major moved to France over twenty years ago to follow her two passions: painting and breeding horses for show jumping. Today, her painting studio is the grain loft of an 18th-century farmhouse on the beach in Normandy, where she paints and raises her horses. Brooke works in oil paint using palette knives to make paintings that create the effect of low-relief sculptures. Quite often, her images are white on white or very lightly tinted against a white background. In choosing her subjects, Brooke revisits her childhood experiences of traveling, horses, and architecture. Many of her architectural paintings celebrate the priceless architectural legacy of Normandy.

American artist born 1979 and native of Atlanta, GA, Brooke Major has been living and working as a professional artist and sharing her time between the USA (Georgia) and France for the past 20 years. As a child, Brooke has always been top of her class in drawing and painting, as well as an avid equestrian, which led her to move to Normandy to breed and raise them for the sport of showjumping. She moved initially to Paris to study political science at an American university, but felt herself drawn more towards the arts and followed auditing classes at the Beaux Arts school in Paris. Her political science studies led her to work for over a year and a half as an intern at the US Embassy in Paris. Following her two childhood passions, art and horses, Brooke moved to Normandy and started her dream of breeding show-jumpers and set up her art studio in a grain loft in a 18th century farmhouse on the beach where she creates her work and raises her horses. Brooke sculpts oil paint, using pallet knives challenging both techniques of painting and sculpting and exemplifying light and shadow. She chooses all of her subjects from her childhood experiences: travelling, horses and architecture. Brooke also depicts her everyday life in her recent subject of her landscapes of the typical Normand countryside.

Gabrielle Benot, "In White III", 24x18 Abstract Equine Portrait Mixed Media
Located in Saratoga Springs, NY
This abstract equine painting, "In White III" by artist Gabrielle Benot is a 24x18 original mixed media painting on canvas of a horse portrait in white, golden beige, and light pastel colors. The artists use of mixed media mediums and thick, textured applications bring a sculptural and three-dimensional quality to each piece.
About the artist:
Born in Latvia, Ms. Gabrielle Benot had a natural gift for artistic creativity. From a young age she had a keen interest in sketching, drawing, and sculpting. She matured as an artist over time, often under the guidance of her grandfather, who was a self-taught painter. Eventually she would study fashion design at the Royal Fashion Academy (Margrethe Skolen) in Copenhagen. Several of her teachers include Andrea Rushing, known for his Steampunk aesthetic, and Jeffrey Watts. Aside from her teachers, Gabrielle has also been influenced and inspired by Jackson Pollock, Gerhard Richter, Pino Daeni, Nikolai Fechin, Gustav Klimt, Joan Mitchell, Joan Brown , Jean Paul Riopelle to name a few.
Her style reflects an interest in partial figurative representation and a reduction of subject matter into minimalistic elements. Additionally, many of Ms. Benot’s paintings materialize from, and are inspired by a variety of sources; some of these include literature, magazines, and alluring private snapshots based on luxury fashion branding and the equestrian lifestyle. She has used many of these sources to develop a technique of her own that include the use of wet brushes, dry brushes, palette knives, oil pastels, charcoal and whatever else can come to mind as a medium, tool or a collage detail.
Concentrating on form, color, and a sense of stylistic freedom, Gabrielle uses light and shadow in her images to approach a semi-abstract impressionistic graphic design that has been described as “unsettling,” “accusatory,” “exotic,” and “tastefully erotic.” Gabrielle uses her technique to experiment with abstract forms and non figurative art...
