About the Item

Immerse yourself in the untamed beauty of "On the Prowl," a captivating wildlife painting by Catherine Ingleby. This original oil on canvas artwork masterfully captures the essence of a leopard in motion, advancing toward the viewer with an air of focused intensity. Ingleby's skillful brushwork and keen eye for detail bring this majestic creature to life, inviting viewers into a moment of raw, natural power. The impressionist style of the painting adds a layer of dynamism and movement, as if the leopard could step off the canvas at any moment. The fluidity of the brushstrokes conveys a sense of urgency and grace, capturing the stealthy elegance of the predator on the hunt. The play of light and shadow across the leopard's body enhances the realism while maintaining the artistic spontaneity characteristic of impressionism. A striking color scheme of orange, blue, purple, and yellow dominates the composition, creating a vibrant yet harmonious palette. The warm hues of the leopard's fur contrast beautifully with the cooler tones of the background, drawing the eye and creating a sense of depth and dimension. The interplay of these colors not only highlights the leopard's form but also evokes the varied landscapes of its natural habitat, from sunlit savannas to twilight forests. Signed by the artist and ready to be displayed, "On the Prowl" is more than just a painting; it's an invitation to witness the wild up close. This remarkable piece is available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art in Chelsea and online, offering collectors and art enthusiasts alike the opportunity to own a work that captures the spirit of one of nature's most formidable creatures. Artist biography: Catherine Ingleby is a renowned wildlife and equine artist based in Berkshire. Her work, with its distinctive use of vivid colour and sense of movement, bridges both the contemporary and traditional. Catherine’s ability to capture the essence of character in both her large scale paintings, and intimate portraits, has lead to her art being collected worldwide, with works in the collections of HM The Queen and many prominent racing stables. Born in Aberdeenshire, Catherine grew up surrounded by horses, resulting in a lifelong passion and admiration for these animals. After a foundation art year in Paris Catherine returned to the UK to do a BaHons in Philosophy and Classics at Durham University. However after graduating, she decided to focus on her art and to that end moved to Italy to study in an atelier in Florence. Since then Catherine has been based between London and Italy, although a considerable amount of time is spent travelling in Europe and the States completing commissioned work. Catherine enjoys painting a wide variety of horses – from the coarsest gypsy ponies to the sleekest of showjumpers. She also loves to try and capture the movement of horses within their world, and has had the chance to study a diverse range of subjects from racehorses at Epsom to the Queen’s stalking ponies at Balmoral. I love to paint animals, always have, and feel very privileged that I now make my living from doing so. In my current phase of work, I aim to explore the movement of animals and develop a distinctive use of colour and brushwork. There is a very simple joy in the observation of animals, in their uncomplicated joy of small things, or their unconscious beauty. I aim to explore this in my work, from the light-hearted pieces of jumping dogs to the more traditional works portraying the majesty of the big cats. I try in my art, to lift the viewer’s heart a little, and I hope to make work that is accessible to all and to bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary. I am obsessed with colour in my work, echoing the colours and patterns of the animal I have chosen to paint in bolder combinations in the background. I find the intensity of patch of pure pigment, cadmium orange next to deep purple in a tiger’s coat, for example, is far more interesting than a faithfully lifelike representation of colour.

In the fall 2023 she will teach a workshop at a castle in France, where artists will stay and enjoy the southern French food and scenes. I paint because it’s the best way I know to communicate, study, and observe creative work that’s how Texas painter V…. Vaughan (the first initial stands for Virginia) describes her drive to create fine art. “It’s a calling,” she says of her life’s work, which has taken several twists and turns but has, nevertheless, led her down the path toward fulfillment. A lifelong Texan, Vaughan grew up in the Austin area and today makes her home in Round Rock, a suburb of the capital city. As a child, she exhibited a love of making art and played the role of the creative one among the seven children in her family, eventually working for several of her siblings as a sign painter and designer. Her parents forever encouraged her to appreciate and mine her passion, instilling in her that it was not simply a passing fancy, but an innate gift. “It was always conveyed to me that this was a God-given talent,” she says. Somehow that made me feel like it was something I was supposed to do. It gave me permission to pursue it. Vaughan attended college on an athletic scholarship, though she filled her schedule with art classes and subsequently secured an internship at an advertising agency. That introduction to the corporate world set her off in a new direction—she left school to parlay the summer job into a full-time position. She continued to work as a commercial artist for many years after that, winning several prestigious ADDY Awards and working on high-profile accounts for Samsung, the Lady Bird Johnson...
