Artist Bio: Charlie Dye was born in Colorado in 1906 and raised in the American West. As a youth, he spent much of his time amidst horses and farm animals; his father was a Texas Trail cowhand. Dye began making art after recovery in the hospital from an injury sustained from falling off a horse. He attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art. He became a painter of the western genre inspired by the work of the great cowboy artist Charles Russell. In 1936, Dye moved to New York City where he became a very successful illustrator working for magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post, Argosy, American Weekly and Outdoor Life. In 1957, the artist returned to Colorado and became a partner at the Colorado Institute of Art. While teaching, his paintings were exhibited and sold at galleries in New Mexico and Arizona. When his work became more widely accepted, the artist gave up teaching and illustrating and relocated to Sedona, AZ. There he met Joe Beeler, John Hampton and George Phippen: all founding members of the Cowoy Artists of America. Dye was also a founding member of the Cowboy Artists of America in 1965 and remained a member until his death. In 1967, Dye won the first gold medal for his oil painting Through the Aspens, which if now part of the permanent collection at the Cowoy Hall of Fame. The artist died in 1972 in Sedona, AZ. Dye’s works are in the collections of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center in Oklahoma City and the National Center for American Western in Kerrville, TX.  (source: The Eddie Basha Collection: Western American and American Indian Art)

She comfortably paints both miniature and large wall hangings using acrylics and water- based textile paints, she uses materials such as bark cloth, recycled paper made out of water hyacinth, Hessian, canvas and many other tradition materials. Her unique art pieces are inspired by ancient and contemporary African designs. They depict typical village scenes of life around Lake Victoria. 'Painting is the only way I can get back to my roots by using our cultural materials such as bark cloth that was used by our ancestors and helps me preserve my culture through some of the motifs I use that were used long ago as signs of belief and worship in the African culture.' Her distinctive artwork is well known in Uganda and throughout East Africa. Her bold, fluid lines explore complex subjects such as women empowerment and national development with economy and grace. Her central artistic preoccupation is the continuation of distinctively African culture. In 2007, she started her own label, Atal Stella. There she focuses on using what is locally available, including eco-friendly, natural and re-cycled material. Her designs have showcased at the Africa Fashion Week New York, in 2010 and at the Green Fashion...

"Chasing the Blackfeet" Original Oil Painting by Ace Powell
Located in Coeur d'Alene, ID
(1912-1978).Oil on canvas; 24" x 32". Son of a cowboy, Powell was raised in Apegar, MT, on the south side of Lake McDonald. His father was a stable boss, guide and tracker for Glacier National Park. As a boy, he watched Charles Russell paint in the Bull's Head Lodge in Apegar. PERIOD: Mid 20th century ORIGIN: Montana SIZE: 24" x 32" Biography: Apgar in Glacier Park was the gathering place for multitudes of artists drawn by the scenery, possible employment with Great Northern Railroad and sales to wealthy visiting art patrons. Bull Head Lodge, Charles M Russell summer home near by, was focus of the developing school. One can only guess at how great artists like Russell, Joe de Yong and host of others interacted with the young teen age wrangler who was likely first trying his hands with the tools of the art trade. Here though the seed was planted that would grow and lead Powell upon his own path and would blossom into over ten thousands works of arts drawn from first hand experiences along with those learned from firelight tales. Powell, like many others upon the frontier, followed the "Rounder" path of marriages, army service, hard drinking and cowboying, but like the lonely rider in many of his paintings whose horse is finally tied to the hitching post of a Northern Plains ranch cabin he found his home near Glacier National Park in Hungry Horse Montana . His home here from the 1950's till the 60's was like Charles Russell's with artists coming and going including his wife Nancy McLaughlin and his own son David Powell who started his trail to a Cowboy Artist of America induction here. After a fire in 1964, Ace Powell...
