About the Item

Oil on canvas Christine Pultz is a French animal painter born in 1953 who lives & works in Pontault-Combault, France. Through her passion for painting animals, especially feline portraits, Christine Pultz feels that her focus on each hair, each claw, each reflection in the eyes of the animals she paints shows her desire to make them immortal. She adds: « I know that today, polar bears, tigers, lynxes, and snow panthers…but also Beluga whales, golden eagles, chimpanzee, red squirrels, bees, and many other species…risk extinction. That is why I hope that the animals I have portrayed, or will paint in the future , might open a sense of responsibility in the hearts of certain people. Animal art must continue as long as mankind exists to shine a light on those animals that may no longer survive ». She is member of prestigious international associations as Societé des Arts, Sciences et Lettres, Societé des Artistes Animaliers in Bry sur Marne, France, Marwell International Wildlife Art Society in Wickham, England, SAB Expo in Belgium in Grand Sablon at the Ancienne Nonciature in Brussels, Gallery Costermans in Brussels, Belgium, Salon International de Vittel, France, Société des Artistes Français in Grand Palais, Paris, France, Reijinsha Prize in Tokyo, Japan, Salon d’Automne, Paris, France, Verdurier House of Limoges, France. This Is Not a Flock of Birds, Original Painting
By Candice Eisenfeld
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
A paper crane flies among a flock of birds against a dusky warm gradient. "The title of this work, 'This Is Not a Flock of Birds,' is a nod to Belgian surrealist painter René Magritte," shares artist Candice Eisenfeld. She takes pleasure in letting her viewers create their own meanings inspired by her work.

About the Artist
As an American exploring issues of identity, artist Candice Eisenfeld paints through the lens of the first American art movement, the Hudson River School. Rather than depicting a specific locale, Candice’s artwork evokes a sense of place. These "inner landscapes" are invented, and often reference photographs taken during travels in southern Appalachia and the Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains. Whether real or imagined, her paintings are influenced by the Dutch Masters, Tonalists, and Chinese painting. Produced on a single wooden panel, the ethereal landscapes are often joined with segments of aqueous color fields which act as commentary for the landscapes, like the chorus in a Greek play. The crisp, hard edges separating the landscapes from the color fields command a sense of order in an otherwise fluid and painterly surface. With two or three sections of the panel competing for attention, the painting creates multiple focal points. Candice's art has been displayed in embassies in Namibia and Belarus, held in the collections of Norwest Bank and Northwest...
