Dina Brodsky's realist oil on mylar animal miniature, "Tiny Yellow," 2018, depicts a petit, black and yellow bird perched on a small branch. The bird's delicately textured black and gold feathers are highlighted by the its black background. Brodsky's use of mylar--a glossy, photography support, provides an additional level of luminosity beneath the pigment, creating a shimmering effect that emanates from the inside out.
Dina Brodsky is a contemporary realist miniaturist, painter and curator. She was educated at University of Massachusetts, Amherst and the New York Academy of Art, where she received her MFA. She lives and works in New York City. She has taught privately, and in several institutions including the Castle Hill Center for the Arts, the Long Island Academy of Fine Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
