About the Item
"Naichi Kalos, Kalos - Alos" is an oil on canvas by contemporary Lithuanian painter Gabija Pritkovaite.
The artwork is composed of two interconnected parts "Naichi Kalos, Kalos" and "Alos" that together form a single, unified painting. The title is a reference to the myth of Narcissus and Echo found in ancient Greek mythology.
Narcissus is doomed to gaze at his own reflection for eternity—longing for the other, yet never reaching it—while Echo is condemned to repeat, to echo the broken endings of Narcissus’s sentences.
This myth becomes a metaphor, a reference to the consciousness that thrives in contemporary culture: a lack of ability to think in one’s own images, to speak in one’s own words.
Echo's repetition of sentences gives rise to new meanings and interpretations.
Due to a large scale of the painting, we recommend shipping the it removed from its stretcher bars (included separately) to reduce shipping costs.
A Certificate of Origin issued by the gallery, signed by both the artist and the gallery, is included with the work.

Pritkovaitė treats the painted surface as both a visual and conceptual space, where memory and presence continuously shift and overlap. Through this approach, she reflects on the instability of images and the role of painting in negotiating contemporary states of being.
