About the Item
"A Swan" is an oil on canvas by contemporary Lithuanian painter Gabija Pritkovaite. In her paintings, young artist is questioning our state of being in today‘s world, by painting images that nonetheless reminds us of something, but are impossible to trace. These images refer to painting as a medium of memory, which is constantly re-questioning itself on the optically illusory surface of the painting.
Gabija Pritkovaitė (b. 1998) lives and works in Vilnius. From 2018 to 2024, she earned both her BA and MA in Painting from the Vilnius Academy of Arts. She is part of the new generation of Lithuanian painters, actively exhibiting in group shows and competitions. In 2023, she received first place in the Zabolis Art Prize and was awarded the Justinas Vienožinskis Scholarship in 2020.

Pritkovaitė treats the painted surface as both a visual and conceptual space, where memory and presence continuously shift and overlap. Through this approach, she reflects on the instability of images and the role of painting in negotiating contemporary states of being.
