About the Item

Kate Ruiz is an American Artist living in Nicaragua. Leaving Los Angeles for central America in 2015 with her family, she now lives on a small farm they have carved out of the land. Her love of the country, its colors, people, and traditions is evident in her brightly colored works. Ruiz paints large-scale patterned works, full of symbols and the palette of her surroundings. At present, due to shipping constraints between our countries, we are limited to showing her small works, but we hope one day to be able to show her large work. This piece is acrylic on wood panel and features one of the farm goats. It is framed in a white washed wood frame, with gold inner edging. Please be sure to watch the video for the most accurate representation of the work. “Bored by the elusive pursuit of the American dream and desirous of raising a family in a foreign land where the new and different are often extended to the adventurous spirit, I moved to Central America 8 years ago. Having dabbled with paints since my teenage years, I picked them up once again as a means to process and order the raucous beauty and chaotic sensory overload experienced in my daily lived existence.”

I enjoy creating interesting interactions, and making up narratives. I love the way light animates objects...
