About the Item

Nassau Blair Browne, a celebrated Dublin artist and Royal Hibernian Academy member, brings to life a serene yet striking portrayal of two hunters in a vast open landscape. This evocative piece captures the essence of Irish countryside hunting with a keen focus on the bond between the horse and the wild expanse they navigate. Browne’s meticulous attention to detail and mastery of light and texture creates a vivid, immersive atmosphere, blending the figures with their natural surroundings. Browne studied at the Slade in London and at a school of animal painting in Midhurst, Sussex. His work was included in the London Guildhall exhibition of Irish Art, which Hugh Lane organised in 1904. Browne was secretary of the RHA 1911-24 and governor of the NGI 1918-24; his administrative duties ended when he moved to England in 1924. However, he continued to send exhibits to the RHA. His stylised landscapes, though essentially academic, reveal traces of an art nouveau aesthetic. Dimensions: 72 cm (L) x 102 cm (W) Framed: 95.5 cm (L) x 120.5 cm (W)
